The accident took you by surprise. You didn't think that the last quest you ever went on would be the one that paralyzed you from the waist down, but it was. The monster just had to cut your spinal chord when it raked its claws against your back. The accident was hard on everyone including your best friend Leo. Because you had to be in a wheelchair it was hard getting around. Before you would have run out the door eager to go to the forge to help Leo out, but now you had to slowly wheel your chair making the journey five times as long. So by the time you got to the forge Leo was almost done with his project and you just ended up turning around and heading back to what ever you were doing before.
Your condition also took a toll on Leo too. He missed his little shop hand and wanted to be able to hear your beautiful laugh after he told one of his cheesiest jokes. He missed the way the glow of the flames reflected off your beautiful (h/c) hair and the way you just seemed to radiate peace when he was frustrated. But most of all, he just missed you. You were the one person he could count on to brighten his day and make him smile when nothing seemed to go right. You put up with his puns and his annoying quirks and even his lame attempts at flirting. It was the day after you were released from the infirmary with your wheel chair that he realized he couldn't be with out you and that he loved you. And it was also that day when he started his greatest project.
He stayed late in the forge making what he thought would be his most prized invention, one he thought that make the biggest change, the best difference. Hammering of metal rang through out the camp late into the night. It never ceased. He made it his mission to make this project and he would complete it. Day after day and night after night he was kept up in the forge only leaving to get a small portion of food or to grab more supplies from Bunker 9.
You were starting to get worried about him. One day, about three weeks after he began his project, you rolled yourself over to the forge and pushed open the door. "Leo?" you called as you entered maneuvering around the tables. You spotted him in the back and gasped. You finally saw what the giant project was.
Leo was bent over a set of mechanical legs screwing pieces of metal in place and wiring it up.
"What are you doing?" you asked.
He jumped hitting his head on an over head beam. "Holy Styx girl! You gave me a heart attack," he said with his crooked grin.
You laughed. "What is all this?" you asked gesturing to the contraption.
His smile widened. "This is your new set of legs. They're almost done so just hold up."
As he continued working your heart pounded. This is what he'd been doing all this time? Working so that you'd be able to walk again? Doing this so that everything would be able to go back to the way it was? The thought made your heart flutter.
"And done!" he shouted picking up the legs.
Getting a closer look you could see that they didn't look like legs, but more like a pair of metal pants.
He beamed proudly. "And don't worry about it being stiff, I was able to get some flexible materials from my dad, so that you can wear them and it won't even feel like it's there."
You grinned. "Leo, you're a genius."
"I know," he said sliding the metal pants onto your legs.
Dang, he was right, the metal was so light that you couldn't even tell the were there.
"Now try to stand," he said holding out his hand.
You took a shaky breath before pushing yourself up. You stumbled, but instead of falling on your face, your legs caught you. You looked down at them in awe and took another few steps. "Oh my gods! They work!"
Leo smiled. "I knew it. And now you can walk again."
You ran over to Leo and threw your arms around him embracing him in a tight hug. "Thank you so much Repair Boy."
"Don't mention it," he said hugging you back.
"What can I do to repay you?"
He grinned, "Well..." He leaned in and pressed his lips against yours.
Your face erupted into a bright red color as you closed your eyes and wrapped your arms around his neck.
After what seemed like forever he pulled away. He smiled at you. "Will you go out with me?"
You smirked. "What do you think Repair Boy?"
