"Wakey wakey, princess. Get up, get up!" said a quiet voice in my ear. My eyes snapped open, and was greeted to an extreme close-up of Helix's face.

"Whoa-ho-ho! Good morning to you too!" I put my hand up to his face, about to push him away, but he backed up himself, eyes wide and terrified.

"What?" I demanded, "I didn't grow fangs overnight, did I?" I poked my teeth where incisors would have fit themselves in. Nothing. Then I realized what had gotten him so scared. I had clipped my nails into sharp points at some point in the past week. I had to laugh, so I did. Callista gave me a funny look. Her short hair was in a bedhead funk. I laughed at that too. She glared at me and attempted to smooth down her wild 'do. Selina walked into the room eating a bunch of grapes. She was already dressed in an adorable little skirt and cardigan that only an eight-year-old could pull off. I suddenly became aware of myself, and that I was wrapped around Helix. I turned my head slowly with narrowed eyes. Helix had been staring into the back of my head.

"What's with this, Helix?" I demanded, peeling myself away from him and rolling over. Bad choice apparently. I rolled right off the edge of the bed, yelling. Selina started to laugh and Callie immediately pulled out her phone and took a picture.

"Ha! This is going on instagram. Don't worry, you look fabulous." she assured me. Helix reached down to help me up. I slapped his hand and jackknifed to my feet. He looked at me in surprise.

"What? Can't you all do that?" I snapped grumpily at him, not feeling too much in the mood for sassy comebacks.

"I... well, yeah but, uh...I-I didn't expect..." his voice trailed off. I raised an eyebrow. Not exactly the snarky remark I had been waiting for.

"What, you didn't expect me to be able to do that because I'm a short girl? Hmph. Shortist. Rude!" I ended up yelling at him. Callista and Selina were staring at me. Then Selina frowned.

"Are you calling me short?" she demanded. Helix looked helpless. Then was a groan and a thump as a pillow flew across the room and hit the wall.

"Shut up, will you, I'm trying to sleep." Carter mumbled, her words somewhat muffled by the presence of a pillow in her mouth.

"Oops. Forgot about Carter. Go to sleep!" I yelled across the room. She flipped over, giving me a death glare.

"That's what I'm TRYING TO DO! I don't need you yelling across the room at me telling me to go to sleep. It's a bit ironic, don't you think?" she looked tired a sleep-deprived. I'm guessing she wasn't used to going to bed at that unreasonable hour of the night. Well, more like morning.

"Hey, 'Sarcasm is the last refuge of the imaginatively bankrupt.'" I quipped brightly, raising my hands defensively.

"Ugh. Stop using book references I don't get." she seemed to have given up trying to shut us, or rather, me, up. She flopped exhaustedly back onto the bed.

"Whatever, just, at least try to keep it down." she pleaded. Now, I must say, I cannot remember the last time I ever heard or saw a princess plead, but it brought me back to reality and forced me to agree, like life taking me and pointing a gun to my head until I agree to close my mouth. Strongly worded but devastatingly accurate.

"Okay. Sorry Carter." I said sheepishly.

"What's with her? Never been moonlighting before?" Callista said, and our side of the room burst into giggles. Only Helix didn't laugh.

"I should hardly think so," he said, sneaking an arm around my shoulders.

"Her mother would have a fit." I said knowingly, throwing his arm back at him.

"Hehe. Yeah. Better than her dad's reaction might be. Imagine that." he chuckled. I laughed. He put his arm back around my shoulder. This time I let him.

"Who is her dad anyway?" Callie asked innocently.

"Oh, you now, only the emperor of China." Helix replied, watching her expression closely. Callista and Selina gawked at him.

"How do you know her anyway, oh fearless leader and apparent lover-in-the-night?" Callie narrowed her eyes suspiciously. Helix turned bright red as Carter burst into laughter from the other side of the room. Four heads swiveled around to look at her. She was about to fall off the bed, and undoubtedly would have without the slight diversion of Araiah bursting through the door with a huge smile plastered on her face.

"Excellent news everybody! Brei Ida's surgery went well and she'll be able to recover quickly. Knowing her, she'll probably be in here in about a minute. She refused to be wheeled out of her room, and insisted on walking." Araiah finished her little speech just as the door was yanked open by Brei Ida. Now that her eyes were open, I could see that they were an exquisite shade of hazel, with dark brown on the outside and a green ring on the very outside and a thicker ring around the pupil. I only realized I was staring when she stared back at me.

"Who's the new chic?" her voice was rough and scratchy; she cleared it.

"New chicks actually." Carter piped up, finally through her laughing fit. Brei Ida nodded. She seemed to know exactly who Carter was already. Helix looked suspicious too.

"I'm Meredith-" I started to introduce myself.

"Formerly known as Asia-" Helix interjected.

"Shut up Helix. Long story, don't ask," I shook my head, "and this is Carter. She's a princess, don't push it with her."

"To be fair, she's got a damn good left hook." Helix put in, rubbing his shoulder. What happened next was some very confusing chaos.
