So, my parents were called (by me) and showed up, with everyone else in tow, at the the gates, looking very nervous. I smacked the surly-looking guard on the shoulder. He looked at me through dark shades, no doubt glaring daggers through my head. Then Carter slugged him in the other shoulder and gave him a princessly smile. He sighed and uncrossed his arms. Helix came up behind me and blew cold air onto the back of my neck. I shivered. The guard hit the lock pad for the gate, which swung open. Venus stared at me with a somewhat jealous hint hidden behind her mask like expression. Helix drew on my back, obviously bored. I reached back and slapped him in the face, earning myself a reproving glare from my mother. China slapped my iPhone onto my hand. I’d had to call with Carter’s phone.
“You forgot this when you left,” she added the last part just for the reproach she was showing me now. Venus was eyeing Helix, who was back to drawing random chinese symbols on my leather jacket. I found it immensely amusing that he was paying more attention to my back to any of the pretty girls in front of him. Then it struck me:Helix knew I liked him, but he didn’t say anything because he liked me back, but had no idea how to tell me that without it being awkward, even though it already was. As soon as I realized this, I reached back and grabbed his wrists.
“Oh,” is all he said. I smiled innocently at Venus as Helix moved in closer. She stuck out her tongue. Then she pulled out her phone and snapped a picture of Helix and I as he started to put his arms around my waist. She grinned devilishly and started typing. I broke free of Helix and grabbed the phone out of her hand.
“Hey!” she yelled. I scrolled back through her instagram posts and was relieved to see she hadn’t posted anything. Then I went back to the page she’d been on and my mouth dropped. She had been about to send this to Silas, Zach, Will, and all my friends.
“You were going to send this to my boyfriend?” I screeched, “And my ex? AND the guy who likes me? Plus my friends? How cold is this!?”
“Wow. You have too many guys in your life,” Carter commented. I hugged Helix and put my head into his chest, feeling like I was five years old again.
“I know,” I sighed, feeling resigned. Helix stroked my hair, and I had a feeling he was smiling as big as anyone had ever seen him smile.
“You reeeally need to start organizing your love life,” wise eyes said, dissing the lovey-dovey mood. We all looked at her with standard confusion and a hint of malice hidden in our eyes. She shrank back at my glare. We walked back to the huge villa we’d rented and offered Helix a place to stay. He’d blushed and agreed gladly. He shared a room with Chad, while I slept with Venus and had many arguments about Silas and Helix. I think if I were to choose between the two of them, I’d pick Helix.
