If conversations ceased to exist

Your words?
Sweet like caramel,
they linger
With the velvety hint of your touch,
Leaving trails of the past and present lush.

I wonder,
What would we be if conversations ceased to exist?
A world where words were neither your weapon, nor my armour,
Just us, no pretence, no glamour.
A world where it all didn't matter.

Would your touch be as sweet?
Would you understand me?
Would I want to know you for you?
Or will we be fickle, just like the morning dew?
Would your soul ever recognise mine?
Would your fingertips ever learn my outlines?

So what would we be if conversations ceased to exist?

Would you learn to read between the lines?
Would I ever confess the things I so, so badly try to hide?
Would you run away from the confession?
Or would you join me in this obsession?

Would you ever see my soul?
Would yours weep for the hurt we endured?

You write, I read.
I write, and leave the pages be.
Because what could we be, if conversations ever ceased to exist?
