Sasha stepped carefully out of the shower, her body dripping wet, transferring onto the marble floors. She twisted her hair to rid it of the excess water before grabbing a white towel and wrapping it around her body. It felt remarkable to actually be able to walk from one room to another and to actually open windows.
She had freedom and she loved it. She never wanted to go back. She never wanted to be in a situation that made her trapped; she would do anything to evade it.
A gentle knock came at the door. "Hold on" she said, glancing around the room for any items of clothing. But she didn't want to keep anyone waiting, so she hopped over to the door and cracked it open a little.
It was Elijah. The girl intrigued him too much to actually stay away. She reminded him of someone and he believed spending some time with her could jog his memory a little.
She was in her towel. "Is this a bad time?" He asked
"No" she smiled, widening the door a little "you can come in, if you like" she invited him in by stepping to one side "you might have to give me a few minutes, you know to get myself ready"
"I can wait" he nodded, perching on the end of her bed. He watched as she held her towel up with one hand and attempted to grab some clothes.
After a few minutes, she came out in some blue jeans and a white shirt that looked at least 2 sized to big for her.
"What's on your mind?" She jumped on the bed, next to him. Elijah found it surprising that she felt so comfortable around him, she acted like they knew each other already.
Saha couldn't understand what about Elijah made her feel safe. Maybe it was because his job was to literally protect her. She might as well be friendly.
"It's just..." Elijah tried to find the right words "you remind me of someone, what is your last name again?"
Sasha shrugged "LaRose" she said
That was it. Elijah had finally put his finger on it.
"Ring any bells?" She asked, practically seeing the light bulb that flicked on above Elijah's head.
"Yes. You're great great great great..." Elijah paused trying to work it out
"Spit it out then" she laughed
"Grandma" he finished "we were allies with back in the 1400's"
"So our families go way back?" She nodded "that's cool, what was she like?"
"She was very devoted to her craft, and her family, she would do anything for them" he began, recalling a time shortly before she died.
"You were close?" Sasha asked. Elijah nodded in return, taking her hand and allowing her to see what he could.
"I suppose that Mikael is on his way seeing that you are flinching at every single movement in the trees" Tara laughed as she kicked her horse to run up the steep hill with Elijah following behind her
"I apologise; the paranoia is getting to me" Elijah shook his head. They both reached the top of the hill and dismounted.
Tara tied her horse to the nearest tree and then turned around, bumping into Elijah, who had eagerly snuck up on her.
He quickly leant down and placed his lips onto hers. She tensed up but he then felt her relax.
After a couple of minutes Tara stopped and wriggled out of his grasp. She didn't want to. He knew that.
"Elijah I ..." She shut her eyes and shook her head, knowing that it was a mistake to come here. Elijah knew what she was going to say, he just didn't want to face it. "You know why I can't"
Elijah shook his head and took his gaze away.
"I have a husband and I have two children" she explained, a tear quickly fell from her eye "I will still be your ally but we can't be... We can't be this anymore; and it hurts to say it"
"I understand" Elijah said, choking down the lump in his throat "they are your family"
"Maybe if we had met before everything" she tried to lighten the situation "then you would be my family"
"Tara" Elijah sighed "you deserve a husband, you deserve someone that can give you a child, someone you can grow old with. I for one feel blessed that we could spend these past few weeks together"
"Don't act like you don't deserve love" she ran his fingers across his cheek "you do, but it's just not me"
She took her hand away "I'll still fight against Mikael for you" she said before taking her horse and walking away.
Sasha came back into reality, "you two were very close" She exclaimed "what happened after that? She slid her hand out from under his.
Elijah looked in her eyes. They resembled Tara's so much, they were identical. "We had to run, Mikael was too strong for us and Tara put together, she told us to take her family with her whilst she stayed and held him back, because she was the only witch" Elijah exhaled "she said she'd meet us back on the hill but she never came"
"What happened?" Sasha asked with a renewed interest "did she make it?"
"I went back to check on her and Mikael had burnt her" he shook his head "I couldn't even tell who she was until Mikael pointed her out"
"That's so sad" Sasha muttered quietly. "But not everyone can say they screwed my great grandma"
Elijah chuckled involuntarily. She was making new light of the situation and trying to make him laugh. Just like Tara used to, she never failed to make him laugh. "Only a LaRose witch could make me laugh in such serious situations"
"Hey I'm not any LaRose witch" she laughed "I'm the last one" she said in a forced spooky voice which made both of them laugh even more. "Anyway, I really appreciate it if I could have an afternoon nap, being outside really takes it out of you"
"Okay" Elijah looked at her, her eyes almost glittering. "I'll be downstairs"
Sasha nodded and Elijah left the room with a sickly feeling in his stomach. He didn't want to tell her what Tasha said to him those centuries ago when they had first met.
"You don't want to align with me,Us LaRose witches are cursed to our own tragic end"
Hers was being burnt alive, leaving behind two beautiful children and a loving husband as well as Elijah; who carried her death with him always.
But what was Sasha's?
