She couldn't sleep.
Every time she closed her eyes she saw him. She felt his hands around her neck. She couldn't help it. It came to a point where she feared closing her eyes in case he had decided to come for her again.
Her hands shook as grasped the covers and pull them up to her chin. She closed her eyes again.
Sweetie
She heard Daniel say in is creepy voice that she had once fallen deeply for. It jolted her awake again.
Her breathing deepened until she was moaning which each exhale.
There's nothing there, she told herself, the darkness cloaked everything in her room which only made her paranoid.
She lay back down and closed her eyes again. And then she saw him once more.
"Go away" she meant to say it in her mind but instead she screamed it at the top of her lungs, the light bulbs turned on via her mind and flickered, before each one blowing out one by one.
That was shortly followed by Elijah stumbling into her room "Sasha who's here?" He asked, half asleep.
"It's nothing" she stuttered as she rubbed her eyes "just my imagination playing tricks on me"
"Are you sure?" He asked "nobody is here"
"Nobody is here" she confirmed "can I stay in your room tonight? I really don't like being on my own in here"
She stood up and hugged her arms around herself.
Elijah sighed in relief that she was okay. He nodded his head "of course" he replied.
He stood aside and allowed Sasha to walk past him. She dragged her feet along the corridor until she reached Elijah's open door.
The bed was messed up, he had been sleeping in it of course, before she screamed the entire place down.
She shyly slid into the side she believed he didn't sleep on and shuffled until she was comfortable.
Elijah got in beside her and looked at her heavy eyes. She was tired.
"I see him" she began "every time I close my eyes and I'm scared"
Elijah switched the light off via the switch on the wall next to his bed, so it was pitch black. He then shuffled towards her and held her close to his bare chest. He could feel warmth on his chest that indicated that she was crying.
"I told you I'd protect you" Elijah said softly "I wouldn't let any harm come your way"
"Thank you" she felt very comfortable in his arms, they were tighter than how he hugged her usually. Maybe he was scared for her?
Sasha pushed herself up the bed a little more until she was practically nose to nose with Elijah. She could tell he had his eyes open as the moon that shine through his curtains reflected and left a small glint in his eye.
She slowly edged forward and pressed her lips against his before jolting back "oh my goodness I'm so sorry" she said when she realised the seriousness of what she'd just done.
"Don't be" Elijah said, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. He then proceeded to kiss her again, he enjoyed he familiarity of her lips. It reminded him of Tara.
Was this natures way of telling him he deserved a second chance? Though she wasn't Tara, she had some similarities and some differences. Though Tara was already someone else's, maybe Sasha was all his.
Elijah knew that none of this was far from over. They had to either kill or run from Daniel. And though he was no fan of running, he would with Sasha.
He remembered planning a life away with Tara, he would take her children with them if she decided to leave with Elijah.
Maybe he could take her North, to a little town by the mountains. One that was small, quiet and only consisted of a small neighbourhood, a small grocery store and a book shop. Sure they would have to travel a long way to any civilisation, but he would enjoy the trip with her. They would get a little house with a front porch where he'd put a swing chair, where they could sit every morning. He'd care for her when she got older and when she'd die of old age, he could always say that she lived a full life.
Or was that too selfish of him? He would never give her a child and she would be stuck in some kind of purgatory where she is stuck with a man that won't age and soon enough, people will talk. Then they'd have to jump from town to town.
"You're thinking" she observed as they broke off "what about?"
"Nothing" Elijah allowed her to snuggle back into his chest "you just need your sleep"
