Chapter 19: Ex

Jungkook pulled up outside Jin’s restaurant just as the evening air grew cooler, the glow of the streetlamps spilling across the pavement. He stepped out of his car, smoothing down his blazer before glancing at the bouquet resting in the passenger seat. For a moment, he adjusted the flowers carefully, as if making sure they still looked presentable, then closed the door behind him.

Inside, it didn’t take him long to spot Taehyung. The younger man was at the far end of the restaurant, mop in hand, quietly finishing his work. His sleeves were rolled up, strands of hair sticking slightly to his forehead from the effort, and his movements carried a kind of quiet diligence that caught Jungkook’s attention more than he expected.

“Are you still working?” Jungkook’s voice broke the silence, gentle yet firm enough to make Taehyung flinch in surprise.

Taehyung turned, wide-eyed for a second before relaxing. “Jungkook…” His voice softened, almost uncertain. “No, I just need to clean this and then I can leave.”

Jungkook’s lips curved into a faint smile. “Good. I’ll wait for you outside—my car’s parked nearby.” His tone was casual, but the way his eyes lingered on Taehyung for a moment longer than necessary hinted at something more.

Taehyung gave a quick nod, watching as Jungkook left, the faint echo of the door closing behind him leaving the space feeling oddly quieter. He sighed, finishing up, before carrying the mop back to the storage and heading to the changing room.

Just as he stepped out, dressed back in his own clothes, Jin appeared. Arms crossed, brows slightly raised, he gave Taehyung a look.

“Leaving already?”

“Yes, I’m already done with my chores,” Taehyung replied politely, clutching his bag a little tighter.

“Good. You can leave now, then,” Jin muttered, his tone clipped but not unkind.

“Thank you. Have a good day,” Taehyung murmured, bowing his head before watching Jin disappear back inside.

Stepping out of the restaurant, the cool evening breeze brushed against his skin. And there he saw Jungkook—leaning casually against his car, the faint glow of the streetlights highlighting his sharp features. He looked almost like a scene out of a drama, hands in his pockets, posture relaxed but undeniably attentive, as though he’d been waiting for only him.

Taehyung’s pace quickened, guilt flickering in his chest. “I’m sorry, did I make you wait?” he asked, voice carrying a mix of worry and bashfulness.

“No,” Jungkook answered immediately, his tone warm and reassuring. Then, with an easy grace, he moved to open the car door for him.

The gesture caught Taehyung off guard. He wasn’t used to people treating him with such quiet consideration. Jungkook even lowered his hand slightly, hovering near the top frame of the door to make sure Taehyung wouldn’t bump his head as he got inside.
