Chapter 30: Tell

Taehyung could only sigh as he watched Jungkook move around the room like an overworked nurse, fussing over every small detail. He looked ridiculous—barefoot, hair disheveled, yet determined to make sure the bowl of soup didn’t spill as he carried it over with both hands. Jungkook had been hovering all morning, acting as if Taehyung had barely survived a near-death experience rather than a night of passion that had simply left him sore and exhausted.

“Honestly,” Taehyung muttered under his breath, “you’d think I’m on my deathbed the way you’re acting.”

He didn’t miss how Jungkook flinched slightly at his tone, almost as if expecting another complaint. Taehyung rolled his eyes. Jungkook had worn that same guilty expression since morning—tight-lipped, eyes darting toward him every few seconds like he was waiting to be scolded. It was almost funny, especially coming from someone who once had no hesitation to throw a punch at him.

“Don’t you have work to go to?” Taehyung finally asked, breaking the silence as Jungkook placed the tray on the bed carefully, the steam from the soup curling in the air between them.

“It’s fine. I can take a leave.” Jungkook’s voice was soft, hesitant, as though saying otherwise might somehow hurt Taehyung.

Taehyung let out a slow sigh and shook his head, his lips quirking in amusement. “Then stop giving me that face. You’re ruining my appetite.”

Jungkook blinked, confused. “Face?”

“Yes, that face,” Taehyung pointed out with his spoon, his tone flat but his eyes gleaming with mischief. “That look that says, ‘I’ve committed an unforgivable sin and now I must dedicate my life to repentance.’ It’s annoying.”

“I just—”

“Stop acting as if you didn’t beat me before,” Taehyung interrupted, his expression deadpan. “That one was way more painful than being fucked in the ass.”

Jungkook froze, the tips of his ears instantly turning red. His mouth opened slightly, but all that came out was a stammered, “I... uh... that— I’m sorry.”

Taehyung arched a brow, smirking faintly at his reaction. “You really don’t have to worry about me, you know. I can take care of myself.”

But when he looked at Jungkook properly this time—really looked—he noticed that the guilt wasn’t just guilt. It was fear. A quiet, unspoken panic hiding behind Jungkook’s eyes. The kind of fear that came from not wanting to lose something precious.

“You’re scared I’ll leave, aren’t you?” Taehyung asked quietly, his voice losing its edge.

Jungkook didn’t say anything. But the way his hand stilled, the way his shoulders tensed—it was enough of an answer.
