Chapter 32: Proof

By the time Jungkook arrived back at the villa, the entire house had already fallen into silence. The soft hum of the air conditioner and the faint rustle of the curtains were the only sounds that greeted him. He loosened his tie and walked quietly through the dimly lit hallway, careful not to make a sound as his footsteps echoed faintly against the marble floor.

When he entered the bedroom, he immediately spotted Taehyung curled up beneath the blanket. The bedside lamp cast a warm glow over him, making his skin look golden against the soft fabric. His breathing was slow and steady, his lips slightly parted as if he had drifted into the deepest kind of sleep.

Jungkook paused by the door, just… staring.

Something in his chest loosened. After everything that had been happening lately — the investigation, the threats, the chaos — seeing Taehyung like this felt like a small miracle. Peaceful. Untouched. Safe.

He moved closer to the bed, the floor creaking faintly under his weight. The blanket had slipped halfway down Taehyung’s shoulder, so Jungkook gently pulled it up again, tucking it beneath his chin. His fingers lingered for a moment — he couldn’t help it — brushing through the soft strands of Taehyung’s hair that had fallen over his forehead.

Just as he leaned in a little closer, Taehyung’s lashes fluttered open.

“Jungkook?” His voice was barely above a whisper, groggy and heavy with sleep. “You’re home?”

Jungkook froze, then smiled faintly. “Yeah,” he murmured softly, his tone melting with warmth. “I’m home.”

Taehyung’s eyes blinked a few times before slowly closing again. “I’m sorry… I don’t think I have any leftovers for you,” he mumbled, his words slurring slightly from sleep.

A quiet chuckle slipped from Jungkook’s lips. “It’s okay,” he whispered, amused. “I don’t mind. You must’ve been tired, huh?”

“Mhm…” Taehyung hummed lazily, a small sound escaping him that made Jungkook’s heart flutter.

“I see.” Jungkook brushed a thumb along Taehyung’s temple. “You should go back to sleep. I still have a few things to finish up.”

Taehyung stirred a little, his brows knitting together. “Not sleeping yet?”

“I will,” Jungkook reassured him, “once I’m done.”

“Mm… good night then,” Taehyung murmured, already halfway back into his dream.

Jungkook’s chest ached with something tender. He bent down, pressing a featherlight kiss to Taehyung’s forehead.

“Good night,” he whispered near his ear, his voice trembling with affection. “Sleep well, love.”
