Chapter 34: Plans
Gaeul was fuming. Her manicured nails tapped violently against the edge of her desk, the sound echoing through her luxurious yet suffocatingly silent office. The sharp click of her heels against the marble floor followed as she stood and paced back and forth, her expression darkening with every step. On her computer screen were dozens of news articles—each headline more damning than the last.
She had grown used to scandals over the years; rumors, whispers, and envious gossip came with power. But this—this was different. Every article had proof. Real evidence. Documents, photos, and reports—all pointing directly to her corruption and the blood-stained foundation of her success.
“What the hell…” she muttered under her breath, her jaw clenching.
Normally, such nonsense would have been wiped out before the public ever laid eyes on it. She had media connections—people who owed her favors, journalists who feared her influence. Yet this time, the stories had spread like wildfire across every platform. Her name was everywhere, dragged through the mud. Her shareholders were already pulling out of their deals, and her company’s stock had started to dip overnight.
And the worst part? The evidence looked legitimate.
Her perfectly painted lips twisted into a grimace as realization began to sink in. Those files—the ones attached in the reports—looked painfully familiar. She had seen them before.
The USB. The brown envelope.
Her pulse quickened.
Those were Kyushu’s files. The same ones she had hidden away before her death. The same ones she had ordered Taehyung to retrieve.
Her fingers curled into fists. “Impossible,” she whispered.
There was no way those could’ve resurfaced—not unless someone else had gotten to them first. But who could’ve possibly—
Her eyes widened.
Jungkook.
It all made sense now. He was the only one with the means, the influence, and the motive. The thought of him outsmarting her, using her own secrets against her, made her blood boil.
“Jungkook…” she spat his name like poison, pacing faster. “You dare challenge me?”
Her reflection in the office window stared back at her—cold, sharp, and filled with ire. She had clawed her way to the top, destroying anyone who stood in her way. She had spilled blood and buried secrets deep beneath her success. Everything she had, she earned—even if it meant sacrificing lives.
And she wasn’t about to lose it all to someone like him.
She grabbed her phone and dialed a number without hesitation. “Kisheon,” she said the moment the call was answered, her tone calm but seething beneath the surface.
