28. RISE & SHINE

REYNA

My eyes flutter open. I stare up at the dim white lights. I try to move but my body feels stiff and it aches. I try to speak but my mouth is so dry and chapped. I'm so parched.

I shift my eyes around the room. I'm in a hospital. When did I get here? What happened? I start to get a horrible headache so I relax back on the bed.

"Oh my gosh! Look who's finally up? How you feeling, sweetheart?" The perky Asian nurse comes in the room. She smiles at me then goes leans over to check my vitals.

"I'm thirsty." I tell her. My voice is just above a whisper.

"Alright, I'll be right back with some water for you." She leaves and a few minutes later she comes back with three water bottles. I gulp down all three of the water bottles. The nurse laughs at my behavior.

"Do you need anything else before I call your family and call the doctor in?"

I shake my head no but I stop her before she's fully out the door. "Who came in here with me? How did they look like?"

"Two men and a female. She says she's your sister and one of the men is your father."

I exhale in relief. The nurse can tell how frantic I was and raises a brow at me. "Everything okay?" I nod and allow her to leave. The last thing I remember is seeing Robyn and being locked up in a box, barely breathing then the sharp pain that went through my entire body before seeing black. Now I'm here, at the hospital.

I'm relieved to hear that nothing happened to my family but I'm still very curious and in need of answers.

I feel myself falling asleep again. My eyes keep closing and I feel a little lightheaded and tired. The next time I open my eyes again, Robyn is my face looking like she's ready to slap the living fire out of me.

I swallow hard. "I know this is not entirely your fault, but when I tell you to choose different friends and a different crowd to hang around with, I hope you listen next time. I knew those people were bad news and of course, I was right." She looks pissed.

Tear well up in my eyes. "I'm so sorry. I never meant for any of this to happen."

My dad speaks. "I'm sure we all can work on forgiving each other. We're just happy you're alright, sweetheart." I stare at him without saying a word. His words feel as if they're coming from a stranger. The last time I saw him was the night he came by my job, posing as a caring father wanting to surprise his daughter with her perfect perfume. That daughter, turned out to be me.

I frown in his direction. "Thanks." I keep my response short. My eyes land on Remi and a smile spreads across my face. I never realized how beautiful my baby sister was. Her boobs are even growing, oh my gosh! Was I gone for that long?

I gasp when I get a good look at Robyn. "Oh my gosh! Robyn! Your hair! What did you do?! Who forced you to do this?"

Everyone laughs, including Chaz. I wonder why he's here. Let me find out he and Robyn are back together?

"No, no one forced me. I needed a change so I chopped my hair off." She weaves her fingers through her short styled hair cut.

I laugh. "It's different for you but it fits, I like it a lot." We talk for a little while until someone knocks on the door. The doctor introduces himself as Dr. Anderson.

"How are you feeling, Reyna? You've been out for quiet a while there." He chuckles lightly.

"I'm fine. Just a little headache and my body feels a little limp but stiff. How long have I been out?"

"A little over a month."

My jaw drops at the news. I've been out for a month? I didn't forget about anything thing that happened up until before Beverly shot me in the stomach and chest. I was in a coma... or a month? It feels like I've missed so much of my life already.

"I know what you're thinking but you're having a good recovery. We tried keeping the baby a live but-"

"THE BABY?!" Everyone simultaneously says. Shock is written all over our faces. Baby? What baby?

"Can you elaborate?" Robyn asks the Doctor.

"Of course, when she was admitted, she was two weeks pregnant but due to her large amount of blood loss and unconsciousness, the oxygen for the baby was cut off. It's a miracle that you're awake right now, Miss Taylor."

I cover my face with my hands. "Oh my gosh. No no no." This is not real I was pregnant?

"You mind telling me what happened, Reyna? Did somebody rape you?" Robyn asks me. It was only her and I in the room now.

"No..y-yes." I start to fidget with the thread from the blanket that is spread across my legs.

"Who?" Her eyes are grilling me and I automatically feel intimidated and scared.

"T-they made me do a porn video with an older man a-and Jason raped me. I thought the man used a condom for the video but I-i-..." Tears spill out my eyes and a huge lump forms in my throat.

Robyn wraps her arms around me and cries with me. "It's okay baby girl.. You're alright now. I'll always protect you. They got what they deserve. You'll never have to go through that ever again. I'm so sorry, Rey. I'm sorry. You're here now. It's okay, you're safe."
