KING
"King... Tony is dead." Those words sting and my heart aches. Dead? That can't be right.
I smack my lips. "That wasn't funny. Don't play like that, Robyn."
She sucks in her breath and sighs. "King, I would never play about something like that. I just spoke to Diana when we got back from the hospital. He was shot twice in the head. It's real, King. He's gone, baby." She lays her hand on my shoulder after delivering the news.
"And you're just now telling me this?" I snap. We've been home for three hours and she didn't bother to say anything to me?
"I'm so sorry, I just didn't know how to tell you-"
"Fuck that!"
I want it to be a joke so fucking bad but I know it is serious. I wish it wasn't true. Almost everyone close to me has passed away. First both my mother and father then Miya, my first and only love. Now my best friend.
I snatch her hand away from my shoulder and stand up from the bed from the energy that I can muster. I limp to the huge walk in clothes full of designer clothes and shoes. I slip my feet in a pair of Jordan's sneakers. I grab my keys and head out the door.
"King? Where are you going?" Robyn catches up to me on the stair case. "King, please talk to me." She pleads when I don't answer her.
"You're not supposed to be walking too much on that leg. Junior, I am serious!" I ignore her knowing damn well that my leg is hurting like hell right now. But I have things to do, I can't be staying in bed all day.
She comes around me and blocks the front door. "Go back in that bed, Justice Harris-King Jr. And I mean right now."
"Move."
"No. Not until you agree to go back to bed."
I smack my lips. "Yo, for real, Red. I don't have time for this right now."
"But the doctor specifically said-"
"I DON'T CARE WHAT THE DAMN DOCTOR SAID BITCH!" I yell in her face. She looks taken aback from my sudden outburst but remains firm and in control.
"King, I understand how you're feeling right now but you have to try to calm down and breathe." She nods at me as if I was stupid. That made me even more angry.
"You don't know nothing! Who have you lost? Your mother? That's nothing, Robyn. I've lost both of my parents, the only girl that I've ever loved and now Tony. Now try telling me you 'know'." I give her cold look but she doesn't move away from the door. I shove her away from the door, it sends her back and her falls on her butt.
Tears form in her eyes as she gets up but I beat her to the door. She looks at me with so much disappointment and worry. I hate that I hurt her the way I did. I let my anger get the best of me and I shouldn't have but I can't worry about that right now. I'll apologize later.
I get in my car with a hell of a struggle and swerve out of the driveway. That motherfucker who shot me better be glad he's locked up so I wouldn't have to make sure I ended him. Whoever did this to Tony has to pay. My parents' murderers got away and the guy who killed Mya in a drunk driving accident got to live but not this one. I'm almost certain that I will find him and Tony can finally rest in peace.
Not a minute after I stop at a red light, a tear manage to fall and stream down my face. I wipe it away but more keeps coming. I pound on the steering wheel. Shit! Now my hands are still bloody and hurts like hell.
Tony was my best man. We grew up struggling together, working the same corners day and night. I never thought it'll end like this for him. I know what these streets can do to you because I'm too deep in it. I know this lifestyle is not what I need and that it's not the best way to live but the streets is all I know. It's in my blood and it's gonna be more than just a fight to leave all of this behind me.
