ROBYN

I receive a call from King asking me to come down to the detention center for a meeting with his lawyer. I'm so glad the detention center is not too far away from where I live. I hurry and get dressed. I make it in about forty-five minutes.

"Hello, I'm here to visit inmate #5678940 by the name of Justice Harris-King Jr." I tell the receptionist.
I wait while she makes a call to tel King that I'm here. The receptionist instructs me to the visiting room where I see King and his lawyer, Jerry Gallagher, one of the best narcotics lawyer in the city.

"Good morning everyone." I greet the two men.

"Good morning Ms. Taylor." Jerry responds with a warm welcoming smile. I notice King didn't say anything back or even looked at me. His head was down and his fists bawled up on the table.

"Okay, I got good news and bad news, which one do you want first?" Jerry says.

"Bad news first." I tell him.

"They're willing to give you bond for one million." Oh, damn.  That's crazy. "First of all, this is not your first offense. You've had a reputation and you're already in the system although you've been laying low for a while and have not been in any kind of trouble since '08. Your chances are still very slime."

"The good news?"

"The maximum is twenty years. And the minimum is ten. Which I think I might be able to reduce to seven but with long community service and probation. You're being charged with possession of illegal substances. And after you were arrested, they performed a second search and found 30 grams of marijuana."

They would lock a serial killer up for only ten years but being caught with drugs can get you twenty five years. Everything is wrong with that.

"But you said the officer was tipped. Did you ever find out who tipped them?" I ask Jerry.

"Sorry, but they will not be revealing that information. Whoever the person was, wanted their privacy. I know the police officer did not have a warrant, so I'll try to work something about that. Hopefully it'll help your case."

"Alright. Do that shit. That's the reason I'm paying all this got damn money anyway." I do not understand King's outburst and disrespect towards the man who is willing to help him.

"I'll do my best, Mr. King." Jerry assures him. He gathers his belongings and leave but I stay.

"Yo, Red..." King starts to say. Now he's calling me by my street name? That's strange.

"Yeah, what's up?" I answer him nervously.

"When was the last time you've been at the warehouse up north? Or checked our sale rates? You were suppose to meet up with Ricardo out in Brazil yesterday. You stood him up and almost caused me a connect. I dismissed it and got Marco to fly out there as soon as possible. I figured you were under a lot of unnecessary stress but now that I see it, you're just careless and willing to fuck up my business. You know I don't play when it comes to my business." He grits out.

I think on it before answering. "Um, maybe like two weeks ago. I haven't been really worried about that. Why?"

"You damn right you haven't been worried. When I gave you this job cause yo ass was money hungry, I thought you could handle it. You don't collect the money anymore, you haven't been checking up on the stocks or checking for those dope boys that you got selling my shit."
