REMI
I gulp down the rest of my coffee when I hear the doorbell chime. I must be Travis. He insisted on giving me a ride to school this morning and of course, I accepted. I grin from ear to ear as I go open the door.
My smile vanishes when I find my father standing at the door. I don't say a word as I glance him over. What could he possibly be doing here? What does he want? Make things worse.
He's definitely aged but he is still a handsome man. He's with two little boys and they resemble him a lot.
"Are you gonna let me in?" He smiles at me.
"You sure you're not going to try to burn this house down too?" I sneer at him.
"I promise I won't lay a finger on the house." I open the door wider so he and the boys could get in.
He stands there and looks at me for too long and I start to get uncomfortable. "Wow. I can't believe you got so big, baby girl. Turned into a beautiful young lady. All of you."
I break eye contact and drop my gaze to the floor. "Thank you."
"Daddy this looks like our old house!" The oldest boy exclaims. He's probably around four or five years old. "Can we go back there, daddy?"
My dad chuckles. "No, CJ. I thought you liked our new one too?"
I tell them to take a seat in the living room. Little Christian scoots close to my dad while the smaller boy is sitting on his lap and resting his head on his chest, half awake and half asleep.
"Daddy, why we here?" CJ whispers in my dad's hear, like I can't hear. I couldn't help but smile at their cuteness.
"Oh, let me introduce you to my boys. This is my oldest son Christian Taylor Jr, he's five. And this is Cameron, he turns two in a few days." I wave at them.
"Say hi Remi guys. She's your sister."
"We have a sister?" Christian tilts his head to the side. "Do you have any toys? No barbie dolls. Those are ugly."
I laugh at out loud at his silliness. The door bell chimes again and I go answer the door. Travis embraces me when he sees.
"Good morning, kid."
I smile at him. "Good morning and you're late." He playfully slap my arm. "Shut up, woman! At least I'm here. You ready to go?"
"Uh, yeah. Hold on. Wait here." I tell him and go back to the huge living room where my dad and the boys are. "Dad, my ride is here. I have to go to school."
"Oh, yeah. Of course. Maybe I'll stop by another time. Call me." He gives me his number and I hurry upstairs to grab my book bag and my phone. I get back downstairs and see my father and Travis staring each other down. They both turn to look at me. What am I suppose to say? Introduce them? They already had enough of that.
"Remi, why is he dropping you off at school? Where's Robyn?" My dad presses.
"Um, Robyn is out and he offered." I say. It feels as if they're meeting for the first time and its extremely awkward and the tension is so thick that you could slice it with a knife
"You know what, boy? You had one job but now I advise you to stay away from my daughter." My father and Travis are so close that their noses are touching.
"I'm a grown man. I do as I please." Travis speaks up.
"Dad, stop." I warn him through gritted teeth.
"Remi, let's go. I'm taking you to school." My dad pulls me close to him. I give Travis an apologetic look. I did not mean for them to run into each other and for it be this uncomfortable.
