Part 2 of Got the Whole Block Looking Like You
Taylor's Pov
I clutched Travis hand in pain as we went over another pothole. My contractions were practically on top of each other barely giving me any room to breathe.
I was already regretting wishing for this to speed up and we weren't even at the at the hospital yet. "Fuck," I whimpered feeling my back lock up due to a particularly nasty contraction.
"Almost there sweetie almost there," Travis reassured me.
"Kylie told me the transition was the worst part but I didn't think it would be this bad," I let out a shuttered breath.
"Yeah it's supposed to be worse than the actual birth," Travis nodded not exactly helping my current mindset.
"We're here," the driver called from the front seat. "Your parents have already arrived and sorted out the check in so they should have someone waiting to take you up once you've gotten to the lobby."
I didn't bother paying attention to what he was saying knowing Travis would handle everything. All I cared about was not passing out or throwing up from the pain.
"Want me to have someone grab a wheelchair for you?" Travis asked from outside my door.
I shook my head taking his hand to steady myself as I stepped outside into the parking lot. "Careful it's slippery." He cautioned.
"And freezing." I grumbled feeling drops on snow fall onto my neck.
"Then we better hurry inside." Travis helped me through the parking lot.
Just as we had been told there was a nurse with a wheelchair waiting for us in the lobby. They brought me up to a room immediately getting me hooked up to the machines to monitor my progress. "Alright Taylor," the nurse, who I had learned was named Colleen, snapped on a new pair of gloves. "If it's alright with you I'd like to start with a cervical check just to make sure everything is progressing alright and check to see how dilated you are."
"Yeah sure," I sighed already getting into the position.
I couldn't hold back the grimace feeling her fingers slipping into me feeling around my cervix. It will never not feel weird having anyone but my husband's fingers in me. I did my best to distract myself going over the list of names we had discussed. We had yet to pick one and agreed we would wait until she got here to figure out which we thought would suit her best.
Colleen went to remove my finger but I felt her stop as her body jolted a gasp coming from her mouth. "Is everything ok?" I asked worriedly.
"Everything is just fine." The nurse assured me retracting her hand but I could feel little resistance as she did. "Baby girl felt the need to shake my hand a little early and didn't want to let go." She laughed pulling off her gloves tossing them in the trash.
"She what?" Travis asked horrified.
"She just grabbed onto my finger," she said far too casually.
"They can do that?" I scrunched my nose at the idea.
"It's not uncommon for babies to grab onto your hand while doing checks." Colleen explained typing something into the computer. "She's already got quite the grip, you should be proud." She smiled at Travis.
"Now it looks like your about six centimeters dilated. So from this point on things should progress much quicker than what you told us from when you first started."
I nodded breathing through another contraction. "Great," I said through gritted teeth.
"Taylor, would you like an epidural? Usually by the five centimeters mark we would have given it already." Colleen asked seeing the pain etched across my face.
