Chapter thirty-five:

3rd Person POV:

Wendy quietly walked around the abandoned Creel house, holding a bug zapper lantern in a tight fist. Elvis flowed through her headphones as Kate Bush did the same for Max. She walked past Lucas. He gave her a look, silently asking if there was any sign of Vecna. Wendy shook her head, answering 'no'.

Erica came from the living room, standing in front of them with a notepad in her hand. 'Found Vecna'.

Wendy's heart beat out of her chest after they got Max, all of them going to the spot where Erica found Vecna. Erica quickly flipped to a new page, writing something down before showing Wendy and Lucas. 'Phase one?' Wendy gave a small nod, giving Erica the go ahead.

Erica ran out of the house as quietly as she could before sprinting to the small play area on the lawn across the street to alert the others who were waiting in the Upside Down.

Wendy nervously stood by the window, keeping an eye on Erica as they waited for the signal for Phase Two of the plan. Lucas stood next to her before giving her a small nudge with his elbow. Wendy turned to look at him in question, seeing him hold up his notepad.

'Sit with her, talk to her'

Wendy widened her eyes a small fraction, quickly snatching the notepad so Max wouldn't see. Lucas gave her a firm look, pointing at the notepad then subtly pointed at Max.

She flipped to a new page, scribbling out words with her marker then showed him what she wrote. 'Talk about what?'

Lucas grabbed the notepad, writing down his answer. 'You know what'

Wendy went to grab the notepad but Lucas held it out of reach, making Wendy roll her eyes and grab her own notepad from her pocket.

She wrote down her answer. 'I don't think this is the right time dude'

Lucas rolled his eyes a little before writing down his answer. 'It will help the both of you'

Wendy took a deep breath, looking hesitant. Lucas pointed towards Max, silently telling Wendy to go. Wendy turned her head towards Max, widening her eyes comically wide when she saw Max already looking at the two of them in amusement. Lucas turned to Max as well, giving her an innocent smile.

Max held up her notepad. 'What am I missing?'

Lucas nudged Wendy forward, Wendy giving him a small glare before slowly sitting in the seat in front of Max as Lucas kept watch by the window.

Max held up her notepad again. 'Hi'

Wendy breathed out a quiet laugh, writing on her own notepad. 'Hello'

Max smiled before writing on her notepad once more. 'I'm glad you're here'

Wendy's heart fluttered, looking down at her notepad to hide her blush in the blue light.

She wrote something then held up her notepad. 'I'm glad too'. Wendy let out a short huff of determination, quickly flipping to a new page to write something else. 'Do you want to do anything this Friday?'

Max looked up in thought before scribbling on her notepad. Wendy waited patiently for Max to finish, fiddling with the edge of a paper anxiously.

Max looked up, hesitantly holding up her notepad to show Wendy. It was a drawing. It looked to be two stick figures, one with two pigtails and the other with a ponytail, sitting side by side with popcorn and candy by their sides. And underneath the drawing was 'Movie?'
