3rd Person POV:
"Sorry to hear about your project, Wendy," Mike said and he set the extra blankets on the couch in the basement, where Wendy would be sleeping for the night while Lucas and Dustin would stay in Mike's room for the night.
"It's okay," Wendy sighed. "Even though it doesn't look like it did before, I'd give it a personal grade of 90%."
Mike deemed that quite fair, considering that's a high rating according to Wendy. It could've been worse and she could've thrown the project away in a fit.
"You hear that, Lucas? It's 90%," Dustin high-fived Lucas. "That's the highest we ever got!"
"90..percent?" El wondered in confusion.
"Yeah, Wendy is a stickler for perfection, so her saying that we did pretty great for helping fix her project, it's a high honor," Dustin nodded, making El even more confused.
"I'm not that much of a prude," Wendy huffed.
"I didn't say 'prude', I said you were a stickler for perfection," Dustin said.
"You said it weird," Wendy narrowed her eyes.
"I didn't say it weird," Dustin argued, then turned to Lucas. "Did I say it weird?"
"Dustin, you know how serious she takes things," Lucas mocked, making Dustin give out a sarcastic 'ha-ha'.
"I'm not weird," Wendy turned to El.
"You are Wendy, not weird" El said, making Wendy smile and nod once, feeling happy at the confirmation that she wasn't weird.
"And you are El, someone with cool powers," Wendy said.
"Boys, Wendy, time for bed," Mike's mom called from upstairs.
"Okay!" The party, minus El, called back.
"See you in the morning," Wendy said while flopping on the couch.
"See you in the morning," The boys said, bidding the girls goodnight before going upstairs.
"Are you feeling tired?" Wendy asked El, the other girl shaking her head. "Me neither. Sometimes I listen to music to help me sleep."
"Music..like radio?" El asked curiously.
"Kind of, but better," Wendy said, getting up and grabbing her backpack, taking out her walkman. "I like to listen to Elvis, or more of his slower songs, the ballads, they help me calm down and stop thinking."
"Would you like to listen?" Wendy asked, making El nod enthusiastically.
Wendy walked over to El's pillow fort, after rummaging around Mike's basement for another pair of headphones, and El made room, the girls sitting side by side with the walkman in Wendy's hands.
"Okay, so you wear these like this," Wendy instructed while putting on headphones, El mimicking her.
Wendy made sure both headphone jacks were plugged in, the volume on a reasonable level, and quickly rewind the tape before pressing play, 'Can't Help Falling in Love,' playing through the headphones. El looked at Wendy with wide eyes, a smile spreading on her face at the sounds entering directly into her ears.
"I can't really pick a favorite song of his, it's either this one or Unchained Melody," Wendy lowered the music to a softer volume so the both of them could hear each other, the two of them laying down in the pillow fort.
"His voice sounds nice," El said, making Wendy smile.
"I agree," Wendy said. She then remembered that the lamp was on. "Oh, I forgot to turn off the lamp."
