Chapter 17: the vote is in

Kayla

Kayla watched as everyone was arriving. She was standing with her dad on a small stage that had a potiam in the middle of it which is where her father was standing. After everyone was there the meeting was ready to get started. Mark raised his hand and immediatly everyone ended their conversations and focused on their alpha. "Hello brothers and sisters, thank you all for coming. I apoligize on calling this meeting so abruptly and interreupting any plans you may have had tonight. Now i know all of you are probably wondering what could be so urgent that would cause me to call this meeting, I will get to that in just a moment. Even thaough this is an ememgency meeting it is still the first meeting since the last full moon, i have a very important announcement. As most of you know my daughter was to have her first transformation on the last full moon and i am over joyed to say she successfully completed her first shift. So it is with great pride that i ask you to please welcome your future Luna my daughter Kayla." Mark said. Kayla was completely taken back she had forgot that her dad hadnt announced her as the next in line to lead the pack. She was so stunned that it took her a minute to realize that her dad was expecting her to take his hand that he had outstreched to her. She quickly took his hand and walked to his side. Where she was met with huge smiles and alot of clapping. After a few minutes her father calmed everyone down and once again the pack was silent. Kayla took her original place on the stage before her father continued. "Now on to the reason we are all here. Please bare with me as this is kind of a long story. I will do my best to keep it as short as possible, I will ask that you refrine form asking questions until the end." MArk took a short pause before continueing. "Now i know that it usually takes a great deal of time for a werewolf to find their mates but my daughter seems to be an exception to that rule, For she has already found her mate." there was a small chatter starting to form but mark cleared his throat and continued. "What is more puzzleing is who and what it is. As it turns out her mate is a new teenager in our town. His name is Zane, He is not a werewolf but a vampire." after marks last statement the pack bursted into yells. "SILENCE!!!" Mark bellowed into the microphone. "Now i know everyone is confused and wondering how this happened and honestly i have no idea. Maybe it has something to do with our species evolving. But what ever the case may be one thing is certin she is mated with him and their is nothing anyone can do about it. Now on to the more difecult news it turns out that Zane and his Mother Lisa has been marked for death by the vampire elders. Now before anyone explodes. I have gathered the infromation and have come to the conclusion that the are both innocent and do not deserve to be put to death. Lisa has been marked because her former husband comitted a crime that she had no part in and when he got caught he put all the blame on her. So they fled it wasnt until after they herad form the victium herself did they know that Lisa was innocent. Even though she was innocent she was still to be put to death for running away. Now Zane is marked because a few years ago he was caught and told to bring his mother in for her death sentence. And he did what any of us would have done he refused and that is why he was marked. Now i ask you where is the justice in that both were marked for death because they refused to let lisa be punished for something she did not do." MArk paused for a minute to let everyone take in what he just told them. Then he continued. "They have been on the run for years. But my daughter told me that the elders have found them once again. Zane told me that normally they would pack up and run but now things are different with Kayla being his soulmate he doesnt just want to leave because he fears that they would use her to get to him and he doesnt want any harm to be brought to her. and as most of you know it is almost unbareable for a werewolf to be away from their mates so Kayla has said that if Zane has to leave she will leave with him. Kayla asked me if we could call a meeting and ask the pack to vote on rather or not they would be willing to put Zane under the protection of the pack. She never once asked if i would command you to do this she wanted you all to decide for yourselves. Now in my opiton that is already a sign of a wonderful luna in the making, It would be a shame to miss out on the wonderful things she will do for the pack in the future. But i agree with her this is not a decision i can make for everyone. This is something we need to decide aas a pack, as a family." Mark took a breath and the questions started coming. "Hang on i know you all have questions and i will be happy to answer them but first i want you to hear form Kayla herself. Before i answer any questions. When she is done we will be walking around and feel free to ask anything. But for now i hand the mic over to your future luna. I am sure i dont have to tell you to that you all are to give her the respect she deserves as your future leader." Mark said. Kayla nervously approched the mic. She never had been a good public speaker, in fact being the center of attention was a nightmare for her. "Hi everyone thanks for coming and taking the time to hear us out. I know most of you are probably thinking that this is a vampire problem and we shouldnt get involved. Truth is if it was anyother vampires i would say the samething. But as it happens this vampire is my mate which also means he is a member of my family and further more he is a part of this pack. From what my dad tells me the pack protects their own. So i am begging you please help Zane. Just because he is a vampire and i am a werewolf does not make our love any weaker than that of a vampire to vampire or werewolf to werewolf. If anything we have to be stronger because we have to overcome the species barrier between us. I love Zane and he needs the pack's help. So when it comes time to vote please think about how you would feel if you were in my shoes and your mate was in terrible danger. Wouldnt you want to do everything you could do to protect them. I can also assure you we are not looking to go to war with the vampires if the results of the vote is to help protect Zane we will try to talk with the vampire elders and see if maybe they would be willing to spare Zane and Lisa if we as a pack help them track down and capture Zane's father. Who i may remind you is the only guilty party here and is the only reason Zane and lisa is in trouble. Thank you if you have any questions i will do my best to answer them." Kayla said. KAyla turned around and walked off the stage. She was expecting to be drowned with questions but only a few people asked questions. Most of the people was in their own little groups talking. When she passed someone they gave her congrats on completeing the change and being the next in line. After what felt like hours her dad finally called for the voting to begin. everyone wrote for or against on a piece of paper and dropped it into a box. Two women named Billy and Martha took the box after the last vote was taken and tallied them up. a little while later they brought Mark a piece of paper he read it and nodded. Kayla could not read the expression on his face. Mark approached the mic "Okay the votes have been sorted and it was almost unimouas decision Zane and his mother is now under the protection of our pack." Mark announced.
