Chapter 26: The Elders Return

                                                                            ZANE'S POV 

     I felt bad for leaving Kayla, I really did. But i couldn't put her in more danger. She was still healing from the Keith thing and if things go wrong tonight than she would be in no postion to protect herself. "You know you will be lucky if Kayla doesnt kill you when she realizes that we left her behind." Mark said. "No i think she will understand that i am just tring to protect her." I said. Mark just chuckled "Zane you have a lot to learn about Kayla. With her having Alpha/Luna blood she has the need to be the protector not the protectee. Hell even before her first shift she pretty much felt the same way. She doesn't like being protected or kept out of harms way. So trust me she is going to be pissed." He said. As if to prove his point i had an overwhelming feeling of anger take over. I knew it was not mine so i knew it was Kayla and she must have realized that we were gone. "I think she knows we are gone." I said leaning my head aganist the back of the couch. "Why do you say that?" Mark asked. "I Just felt her anger." I said trying miserably to smile. Mark just raised an eyebrow. "YOu know in the werewolf species we can't mindlink or feel our mates emotions before we complete the mating bond which consits of have sex and marking eachother. So that means one of two things you have had sex with my daughter and are wearing her mark or that vampire matings are totally different than ours." Mark said staring me down. "Mark i swera that me and Kayla have not done more than kiss and she has not marked me. But noramlly for vampires the same thing applies we can't do the mind link or feel emotions until we actually have sex and mark eachother. So i don't know why me and Kayla can do this already." I said. "Well hpoefully we can all figure this out once everything around here settles down and returns to normal." he said lowering his head and returning the paper work he was doing. 

    a few hours later Anne came into the office where we were sitting, "Um Zane, Mark we have a situation." She said. I thought i could see her trying to force back a smile. "What is it now?" Mark groaned. "We have a very pissed off looking Kayla coming up the sidewalk." She said letting the smile show. We then heard the front door burst open. "DAD! ZANE! GET YOUR ASSES DOWN HERE NOW!" Kayla yelled. "This was your idea you go confront her. She won't hurt you too bad since your her mate. Plus she will be less pissed off when i come down." Mark said. I stood up and started for the door looking over my shoulder "Tratior." I said to Mark who just smiled at me. "Good luck." Anne said as i passed her. "Thanks something tells me i'm going to need it." I said heading towards my very pissed off little mate downstairs. 

                                                                                        KAYLA'S POV 

     I seen Zane coming down the stairs with a small smile on his face. "Hey baby you look like your feeling better." He said as he walked closer to me when he was finally close enough, I pulled my fist back and punched him as hard as i could in his face. I heard the crunch come from his nose when my fist connected with it. "Damn." i heard Randy say behind me. I didn't feel bad at all for hitting him that hard cause i knew that he would be healed in a minute maybe less. "Don't hey baby me! What the hell were you thinking just leaving me like that?" I asked. "Kayla i was just trying to keep you safe. I knew that if things go wrong tonight you are still healing so I didn't think you could protect yourself." Zane said. From the look on my face i guess he realized that was the wrond thing to say at that moment in time. "I don't need to be protected! I'm more than capable of taking care of myself! As you can tell!" I yelled. "Kayla maybe i should have talked to you first i honestly thought that i was doing the right thing." He said. "Apparently you thought wrong." I said. "Kayla what would you have sone if you were me? Really think about it. Could you really let me do something knowing there was a chance that i could get hurt?" He asked. Okay maybe i was being a little too mean to him, After all i would have probably done the same thing. "Fine. You get a free ride this time. But don't you ever do that again. We are mates we face everything together." I said. "Okay."  He agreed. "So where is the other man in on this plan?" I asked. "In his office. You should know that he thought that you knew and agreed for us to leave. It was not until we got back that i told him you didn't know we were leaving." Zane said looking at the floor. I sighed i should have known that dad would not have left without me knowing. "Well come with me and alpha Randy to dad's office. There is something that you and dad need to know." I said heading up the stairs. After a few minutes i had explained to my dad and Zane everything i knew about Alex's plan to wipe out our pack and apparently many others he had already managed to kill which is why he was working with Keith.And that it was only him the other elders had no idea. "Honestly i am not surprised, Alex has always been against the truce between our kinds. Since he didn't join the elders until after the truce was signed and the laws were passed he couldn't do anything about it." Zane said. "Well reguardless we are going to turn Keith over to them that was our deal." dad said. "Mark i hate to break it to you but if Alex really wants to fight than it will happen. We have to figure out a way to let the other elders know what he is up too before he has a chance." Zane said. "Well if he sees me than he won't wait. And i refuse to stay home." I said. "Honey no one is going to ask you to do that but maybe you should stand back and mix into the group so we have a chance to out Alex." Dad said. After a while we had our plan ready to go.
