You awoke at the sound of something breaking. Looking on the floor where you last saw lapis, she wasn't there. "Lapis?" You called out for her as you slipped out of bed, rubbing sleep out of your eyes. You walked to where you heard the crash, in the kitchen. Sure enough, Lapis was standing in the middle of the kitchen, staring at a plate that had fallen. She couldn't have broken it, she was standing a couple feet away from it. "Lapis, are you okay?" You asked as you tapped her shoulder. She looked at you. "I didn't mean it! All I did was this I didn't know that it would knock anything over!" Lapis whimpered, looking down as a pair of wings sprouted from her back. But instead of feathered wings, these wings were made of water. "Whoa. That's... Amazing," you said as you gently touched a wing, feeling water surround your finger. The wings disappeared into her gem. "I'm sorry, (Y/N), it was an accident," she said, looking like she was going to cry.
"Hey, hey. Easy, Lapis. You were honest. It's okay. It's not like I'm gonna throw you out or hurt you just for breaking a plate," you said as you pulled her in for a hug. Lapis was hesitant but she buried her face in your shoulder and hugged you back.
"It's not a big deal, why are you so scared of doing wrong?" You asked, pulling away to look at Lapis. She wasn't looking at you, keeping her face hidden under her hair. "Because... Yellow Diamond would hurt gems that disobeyed her," Lapis sniffled, wiping tears.
"Well, Yellow Diamond isn't in here. And here, it's okay to make mistakes," you said, trying to comfort her. Lapis nodded and sniffled again. You both sat there in silence, not looking at each other.
"I heard something is everything alri-oooooooooooooh," your sister appeared, staring at the scene in the kitchen. "Um... Is this a bad time?" She asked, looking from you to Lapis.
"Well, I don't know. It's all sorted out, just a little personal story." You said to your sister. She nodded and disappeared, heading back to her bed probably.
"Hey, Lapis. Since we're both up, I'm gonna get ready so we can go look for your friend," you said, smiling at her. She smiled a little and nodded, which made you happy to see that cheered her up a bit. You left her side and walked into the bathroom. Stepping into the shower, you did your morning routine of washing, brushing your hair, yadda yadda. Once all of that was done, you looked around for Lapis, who was sitting on your bed, reading a book. "Lapis, what are you reading?" You asked, sitting next to her. She showed you the book cover. "Oh... Ohhhhh my god... Where did you find that?" You asked, seeing that she was reading Fifty Shades Of Grey. That definitely wasn't your book. "On the ground, next to Tiana's bed. Hey, (Y/N)? What's a-" you cut her off by grabbing the book and closing it. "You're not ready for that stuff jfc," you said, tossing it under Tiana's bed like it was a highly toxic object. Lapis tilted her head. "But.. What's-" "no." "But-" "You'll learn sometime later but not now."
Lapis looked at you and put on a playfully angry face. "So are we ready to go?" She asked.
"Yep!" You said, running to the door. Lapis put on your hoodie before running after you.As you walked through town, you walked to Beach Citywalk Fries. The kid at the counter was very young, surprising to you since usually it's until you're 16 until you can get hired anywhere. "Hey, kiddo. We're not here to order anything, but do you know a boy named Steven? We're looking for him," you asked, being honest and straight-to-point. "Uh yeah, he's my friend. He comes here frequently," the kid said. "Alright. Thanks!" You said, waving goodbye and leading Lapis to a nearby bench. "So, now we wait for Steven?" She asked, sitting by you. "Yep. I mean I guess he might as well come here today," you said, staying on the positive side.
It had been 10 minutes, looking for anyone that approached. You glanced at Lapis, who was still looking around for anyone that even looked remotely like Steven. You had short term memory and could barely remember what he looked like, so you were depending on Lapis to recognize him.It had been around 7 minutes later until Lapis suddenly jumped up and pointed past the Beach Citywalk Fries. "Over there! At the Big Donut!!" She exclaimed. You grinned and got up, grabbing her hand. "Quickly! Before we lose him!" You said, running across to the Big Donut as who you both hoped was Steven walked to the door.
"Steven!" Lapis called out as she let go of your hand and ran ahead of you. Hearing his name, the boy turned around. Lapis nearly tackled him in a big hug. Her hood had fallen off, letting Steven automatically recognize the blue hair and skin. "Lapis! It's- it's really you!" Steven said, excited to see his friend again. Lapis pulled out of the hug, looking over him. You approached behind the two reunited friends, smiling in triumph. "Steven, this is my friend (Y/N)! She's been watching over me since unfused!" Lapis said, standing up and pushing Steven towards you. You waved. "Hi, Steven," you said, still grinning. "I recognize you!" Steven said. "You work at the Big Donut!" You nodded, shaking the boy's hand. Lapis was making a quiet squealing noise that you found adorable. You've never seen her this happy. She nearly knocked you down with a hug. "Thank you, thank you, thank you so much, (Y/N)!! I owe you so much!" Lapis shouted, ecstatic. You blushed a little bit, hugging her back. "You're so welcome, Lapis!" You said. You were both laughing before Lapis looked at Steven and smiled widely, pulling him into the group hug. You were all laughing with joy. You loved it when Lapis was like this, hoping this moment lasted forever. None of you cared if people watched.
Lapis's gem started glowing through her clothes, and something on Steven's stomach that you guessed was a gem started glowing as well as you all spun in a circle, laughing and hugging each other. Suddenly there was a bright light as you all saw the same thing, the ground being far from your face. People stared in awe and some took pictures. "Lapis, what happened? Why are we seemingly tall?" You asked. You felt another voice come from the same mouth you spoke from. "Oh gosh, we fused!" You guessed Steven said. "We what?" You asked, confused. "Steven, you can fuse with humans?!?? Because I KNOW that wasn't me!" Lapis said. There was another bright light as you all fell to the ground. You had unfused. You looked at both of them. "I am sO confused right now," you said, sitting up. Lapis was silent for a second before she broke out laughing. The people watching were dumbfounded. You all just ignored them and ran back to each other and hugged before walking into the Big Donut like nothing happened.
