Chapter 29: Onto the new journey

Before completely heading off towards the direction of the harbor, Naofumi wanted to pay a visit to a familiar friend for two reasons. 

The first was to check and see if Garfiel's shields were ready since he knows that they might come in handy if he's given his shields. 

The second was to conduct a test of sorts. 

Upon reaching the weapon shop, the store owner was happy to see the Shield Hero and his party. 

Before saying anything to them, he had also noticed the Sword Hero and his party, prompting him to say to them:

"Welcome to my shop, have a look around and let me know if you have any questions or need anything."

Ren and his party members nodded to the shop owner before turning their attention towards Naofumi, noticing the Shield Hero having his focus on something. 

The store owner turned his attention back to his usual customer to say:

"Heya kid, that trial felt pretty good, eh?"

"..."

Naofumi didn't respond, he was focused on grabbing the shield that was in front of him and just stood there, standing in silence. 

The shop owner found this both weird and suspicious, prompting him to approach the Shield Hero to see what he's up to.

"Wait, what are you doing?"

Unbeknown to the shop owner, Naofumi's eyes were seeing the game mechanics of the world coming into play. 

He focused deeply on attempting to copy the shield on his hand before noticing a pop up appear.

Copied Shadowsteel Shield

A new area appeared in his vision with the shield he just copied placed there, with the stats of it being a rarity C and a two out of three stars. 

Right as this menu disappeared from his vision, he turned towards his shield to notice the green gem to start shining before turning into the Shadowsteel shield type he was holding onto. 

Naofumi smiled with an impressed expression, the shop owner was taken aback by this while Garfiel, Raphtalia, and Filo were surprised but excited.

"It worked."

" "It worked," my ass!" The shop owner shouted in annoyance, "You're gonna run me out of business with that!"

As he was complaining, Raphtalia, Filo, and Garfiel immediately approached Naofumi to check out the copied version of the shield.

"How did you do that?" Raphtalia asked with such excitement in her voice.

"Th't's a cool trick!" Garfiel in a child-like manner shouted, being excited by such an ability.

"You're amazing, master!" Filo shouted, also having the same excitement as Raphtalia and Garfiel.

They have seen this before with Naofumi being able to pull out Garfiel's shield on the legendary shield though that was because he had pulled a piece of the broken shield and had his shield absorb it. 

Seeing him doing it without seemingly doing nothing was different, much more exciting.

"He's not! That's just a crime!"

The store owner shouted in retort. Naofumi was sympathetic...for only a second before saying to the shop owner:

"Sorry about this, boss."

He immediately went to grab another shield, managing to attain a copy. 

This only caused the shop owner to stress out.
