Chapter 19:
Blaise
“Me, I'm dishonest, and you can always trust a dishonest man to be dishonest. Honestly, it's the honest ones you have to watch out for.” – Johnny Depp
Ok, yes that was creepy. And yes, I didn’t do anything about it, but give me a break, I was too shocked! Anyone would be! I mean, mermaids don’t exist!
I lay down on my bed and eyed the man whose name was Chris just floating around the room. I hadn’t told him anything that had taken place a few hours ago.
“Looking for something?” I asked him, pulling the covers around me.
He glanced at me, “You know your friend is going to be out cold at night and they’re just going to scavenge her room, right?”
I nodded slowly, “What can we do?”
He shrugged, “She doesn’t have anything valuable in there, does she?”
I shook my head, “Not that I know of…” I said slowly, thinking of everything in Alexa’s room. Damn, she had a lot of stuff! It would take forever to get through them, but thankfully she didn’t have any magical items.
“Well, that’s good then.” Chris said and opened a drawer, looking around it. My eyes widened,
“Get out of there!” I screeched. He ignored me and raised his hand. Dangling on his finger was the only pink underwear I owned.
“Pink? You like that color?” He asked nonchalantly, a small, teasing smirk on his lips.
“You pervert! Get out before I blast your head off!” I jump up, eyes locked on his figure, ready to pounce. Chris chuckled and let it drop as he pushed the drawer until it closed and walked out of the room. I slammed the door after him and enforced it with a shield.
How had he been able to pick up a physical object? I wondered, then frowned, perhaps the same way I was able to push him out of my room: Gently, yet with power. I glanced at the drawer and then at the man.
I stared after him for a while, calling him vile names in my head before I lay down on my bed and rested my head against the pillow. I looked up at the pale ceiling decorated with two or three fading glow-in-the-dark stars from when I was five. I closed my eyes and started thinking about everything that had happened. A gazillion questions went through my mind but I never had the time to answer them since I fell asleep.
There was that girl again. She stood up from the dirty floor and looked at me. Well, I wouldn’t call it looking since that iron mask with that jewel embedded in it didn’t have holes for eyes, or mouth…or even a nose now that I look at it.
‘Hello…’ a female voice echoed in the dream.
“What do you want?” I asked her, my senses on alert.
‘I want to be your Guardian,’ she merely said.
“Guardian? As in…what Alexa has?” I looked at the woman suspiciously. She nodded.
‘But first, can you get these chains and this mask off of me?’
My eyes looked her over, taking in every detail, analyzing her to see if she could harm me. Protruding from her back were jet black demon wings with black horns on them. Swishing slowly around her was a black tail with a spike at the end. After a long silence, I went up to her and walked around her, slowly.
