Prologue:
Do you believe in fairy tales? Magic? Supernatural beings? If not, prepare to do so, since my whole, entire life revolves around this stuff. I’m not your average teenage girl, never have been, never will be, and no, I never want to change it. True, I face life threatening dangers every day, but besides that, I love my life, my friends and…my powers….
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I felt a friendly presence in my room,
“Hi Chris, oh, yay, you’re early.” I smiled switching off my laptop. I looked around trying to spot, if not him, his silvery outline. No, Chris wasn’t human – at least he’s not anymore. Chris, his real name Christian Dragonheart, is a two-hundred year old spirit, and yes, I admit it, I hang out with him.
“Ok,” I said nervously going over the mental steps of how to send someone to another dimension, “this is my first time doing this, so I don’t know where I’ll send you and if I ever send you…” I warned him.
I felt him look at me, I felt his determination, and I knew I had to try at least. I mean…what could happen?
‘Alexandra…’ his voice was spoken to me through my Guardian. A Guardian is a spirit which lives in your body, guiding you, teaching you and protecting you. Plus, the only people I knew who could see him where, my Guardian, Serina, and my best friend, Blaise.
‘…we need to do this. Blaise’s mad at me…and, you need to practice going and sending people to the other dimension.’ Serina spoke softly in my mind.
I sighed and looked down, “Fine…let’s hope nothing interrupts…and everything goes well…” I glanced at the opened door leading out into the hallway.
‘It will, little ‘un.’ Serina reassured me mentally.
“Ok, well…” I lay down on my bed and covered myself in my bed sheets, after I closed the door. “…Can you…umm…float over here,” I tapped the mattress next to me, “so I can know where you are…so I can focus?” I added. Oh, this is a bad idea…
I felt something cold pass through me for a second and then a presence could be felt next to me, on the spot where I had just tapped.
“Not through me!” I whined.
‘Alexandra just do it…I’ll be fine…’ Serina translated. I felt Chris’s restlessness and even though I couldn’t see him, I knew he was looking pleadingly at me. I gulped and closed my eyes.
I blocked out every noise around me, every sense except for one: my powers. I concentrated on pictures of the other dimension: lush forests, a stream, a yellow dragon guarding the three, huge stones, the village… I focused on the forest with the stream running through it.
‘Good, now call upon your energy…’ Serina whispered in my head. ‘Feel it surround you, gently now…’
Serina’s voice trailed off as I felt my energy rising all around me. My body was growing hot, but during that moment, I hardly noticed it. My body suddenly had a mind of its own as the energy pulsed through me. Each pulse, slow at first, gradually getting faster, sent a tremble through my body. I squeezed my eyelids shut as I concentrated on Chris until I saw him with closed eyes. The pulses kept getting faster and stronger as my body temperature was going up. It’s dangerous to use this much energy, I’m not supposed to – I shut those thoughts away and returned to the task at hand.
“Chris…other dimension!” I whispered loudly, surprised to hear I was out of breath. My energy had escalated, coming so fast that it was hard to breathe. I inhaled and held my breath, letting it out only when I had to. This helped the energy flow quicker through me, unstopped.
I pictured Chris near the river. Suddenly, the picture changed and I saw a lush, green forest, then the dragon. A creature made out of shadows made its way into my imagination, then our arch enemy, Metus. I couldn’t control the pictures. The dragon in the forest, showed itself in another picture, then a desert and finally a ravaging river.
“Forest…” I gasped, still trembling from the energy which now made the whole bed shake. My eyes rolled back, but I had to picture the forest. A sudden image of a wildfire exploded in my mind and Metus' face was in the middle of it, smiling. His head was bent but his eyes were on me. I squeezed my eyes tighter, willing that picture to leave. The water conquered my thoughts as I shot straight up, panting and covered in sweat.
I detached my hands from the sheets I had unknowingly clenched in my fists with slow movements. I touched my legs. They were burning. The same had happened to the rest of my body. I tried to feel Chris, but he was nowhere.
“D…did it work?” I asked breathless. I was too tired to think the question and ask Serina, via head. The whole process had drained most of my energy – which was rare since I had a lot.
‘You sent him somewhere alright…now…I’m not sure where though…’ Serina said in my head. ‘Those images you saw may have mislead you.’
I stayed on the bed, catching my breath. Blaise had said sending people to other dimensions needed a lot of energy and that you would most likely faint from using so much. Was I going to faint now? I didn’t feel weak, just surprised and shocked that I had actually sent someone to the other dimension…on my own!
‘About that…’ Serina started, obviously listening to my thoughts, as my pet walked onto the bed. My pet isn’t normal – it’s a magical creature called a púca. It can shape shift from human, to goblin, to rabbit, to goat, to dog, to horse, you name it and it can move earth at will. Again, only I could see magical creatures – with closed eyes though. To humans they were totally invisible. The púca lay down in my lap in puppy form, wagging its tail, looking up at me with puppy dog eyes as I pet it.
‘…you sent him to a dimension…but we don’t know if you sent him to the dimension…’ Serina continued in my head, emphasizing the “a” and the “the”.
My eyes immediately widened in fright. The púca looked up sensing my fear, and cocked its head, watching me with its big, bright eyes.
“Y-you mean he-he might…die ‘cause of me! I could’ve sent him anywhere! I could’ve lead him into Metus' hands. I could’ve lead him in the middle of a desert, or…the middle of the ocean! And…” I paused, taking a deep breath to unsuccessfully calm myself down, “all that by accident?! What type of…whatever I am…does that?” I almost yelled, jumping up from my bed. The púca transformed into a bunny and hopped onto the ground out of my lap.
‘Calm down!’ Serina told me.
“I can’t! Chris’s in trouble cause of me! Oh my gosh! What have I done?” I started freaking out, repeating these words and more as I paced back and forth in my room. The púca, in bunny form, hopped onto my bed, watching me with its eyes, worried.
“I need to go after him! Help him! Bring him back…”
