"Dazai, we have an intruder," said Atsushi after stepping into the boss'soffice.
"Geez we wouldn't have noticed at all." Tachihara said sarcastically.
"But knowing Dazai, he might not have." Chuuya said making the other man pout.
"It would appear so," answered the boss, Dazai, as he gazed out thewindow in his black overcoat. Atsushi took notice of the window as well. Itwas electrochromic glass that could tint until it was a black wall with thepress of a button. However, it had not even been used once in the past fouryears. And yet, right now, it was a clear gateway to the vast blue sky andcity below.
"The intruder has already broken through levels one and two," reportedAtsushi after returning his gaze to Dazai. "He is highly skilled. He's alreadydefeated all our guards."
"I didn't know you noticed me that much." Beast Akutagawa asked.
"Well what can I say, you're one interesting man. Caught my eye the moment you walked in." east Atsushi replied.
"You know him, don't you?" asked Dazai as he turned his back toAtsushi and stared out the window.
"I do," Atsushi replied with a nod. "I checked the cameras in thesecurity room and saw him. His name is Akutagawa, a skill user I happenedto run into at the café."
"I see," Dazai responded coolly. "The time has finally come."
There was neither surprise nor bewilderment in Dazai's voice. Instead, itsounded as if he was making sure everything was going according to plan.
"Dazai...may I ask you something?"
"Go ahead."
He still didn't look at Atsushi.
"Is the intruder really Gin's brother?"Dazai remained silent for a few moments.
"Yes," he replied icily.Atsushi furrowed his brow and showed a hint of hesitation.
"So doesthat mean...you lured him here?"Dazai didn't say anything. He simply stared at Atsushi out of the cornerof his eye."I handed him the letter you gave me at the café, and he fell into a ragethe moment he saw Gin's picture. He showed up here not long after that."
"Aww Ni-san!" Gin said hugging east Akutagawa.
Dazai listened without moving a muscle."Did you mention in that letter that Gin was here?" Atsushi calmlyasked. "What I'm trying to say is, did you purposely have that skill userattack our headquarters?"
Dazai turned around, then walked over until he was standing in front ofAtsushi without changing his expression. He spoke in a deep, raspy voicethat would tear the soul apart of all who heard it:"What if I did?"
"Why would you lure him like that? Do you know how much it costs for the damage? Of course you don't cuz you never thought about it." Chuuya said fuming.
Beast Akutagawa clenched his fists knowing that once again he was fooled by the man in black.
Atsushi stopped breathing. "Does chuuya-san know about it? He would not be happy knowing the amount of damage caused."
"Good at least the kid has some brains and consideration.
It was if all the air in the room haddisappeared."Imagine that the rain caused a flood and wiped out an entire village orthat lightning struck a tree and caused a major forest fire. Imagine theslightest earthquake triggered a tsunami and changed the shoreline. That isprecisely what you're witnessing, Atsushi."
There was even a hint of kindness in Dazai's hoarse voice."This is a convulsive natural phenomenon created by the massiveunderground organization the Port Mafia. It isn't something that a singlesoldier could stop, let alone even understand. This is a powerful vortexcurrent. Why try to understand a flood's true meaning? In other words, I'll deal with chuuya."
Atsushi looked at Dazai. He then saw an illusion: a torrent of schemesproduced from a single point in Dazai's brain that was swallowing thisroom, the buildings outside, the city—everything."So everything was all part of some plan of yours?"But Dazai didn't respond.
"Does this have to do with the phase two and phase three thing youmentioned a while back?"Dazai still didn't respond, but Atsushi saw something far moremeaningful in his distant gaze than some eloquent speech could ever have.He immediately straightened up and vowed, "Very well. As captain of thePort Mafia's commando unit, I promise to return this building to its usualpeace and tedium."Atsushi then turned on his heel and headed for the exit.
"If you'll excuse me."Dazai quietly watched as Atsushi strode out the door. He then faced theempty room and whispered to himself:"Yes. This is a natural phenomenon."There was a slight ring of prolonged exhaustion in his voice.
"Nobody can stop it...not even I. The only thing I can do is love—lovethe fact that this world is one huge lie."
"Dude you're head is seriously messed up. Have you considered seeing a doctor?" Ranpo asked.
"My place is always open you know?" Yosano said.
"No thank you I would rather kill myself than visit your place Yosano." Dazai said.
"As if you need any encouragement. Aren't you already doing that?" Chuuya and Kunikida said in unison, once again respecting each other for their amazing ability to put up with the suicidal maniac.
