Chapter 4
Paige’s POV
A week later
I was sitting behind the counter of Starbucks while Shannon had music on singing and dancing around the shop. It was empty and she had got bored. I was sitting with my feet up and singing quietly to the music. My mind kept going to Marcus, it had been a week and I hadn’t seen him since the whole thing in the backstreet. If he was supposed to be protecting me why hadn’t I seen him? Why hadn’t he been here to help me then? Lucy kept telling me to phone him but I had a feeling his number was only if I was in trouble.
“Hey Paige!” someone said from the door.
I looked up to see Shannon dancing on the tables and Marcus leaning on the doorframe. He had a grin on his face and I could tell he was trying to block out Shannon screeching out Lady gaga.
“Hey, long time no see.” I said. He laughed at that for some reason.
“Grab your coat; I need to show you something.”
“Yeah sure, I’ll just be a sec.” I said. I got up and walked over to Shannon. I pinched her hand and she jumped down from the table.
“What was that for Paige.” She started moaning and crying. Ha such a cry baby.
“I need you to cover for me if the boss asks, I gotta go somewhere.” I told her while walking to the door.
“Wait, where you going?” she screamed. I didn’t answer and just walked off behind Marcus.
I followed behind him for a while as he walked and walked. I asked him a few times where we were going but he didn’t tell me anything. He just looked at me with a smirk. I had been following him for half an hour now and I was getting bored of this.
“Is this gonna take that long, I do really have to get back to work.” I asked not actually wanting to go back.
“We’re there, I just gotta show them who I am.” He answered.
Marcus’ POV
I walked up to the big desk in front of me. Paige was waiting behind me looking at the rusted iron gates in front of us. I quickly put my hand up in front of me to show my tattoo on my wrist. The woman nodded and flicked a switch. The big iron gates opened and I walked to the abandoned warehouse in front of us.
“Why have you brought me here Marcus.” She asked. I turned around and she was still standing where I left her. I walked back to her and put my hand on her shoulder.
“Paige, do you trust me?” I asked.
“Uhhh… Yes but why are we here?”
“Nothing is gonna happen to you, I said that I will protect you, I wouldn’t have brought you here if you weren’t safe.” I reassured her. I took her hand and she shivered. I continued to walk to the warehouse. I opened the massive door and walked in. Paige stopped at the door and gasped. She obviously wasn’t used to surprises.
The warehouse was falling apart on the outside but inside it was amazing. Bright graffiti filled walls, beds all along one side of the warehouse hidden by curtains; the place was packed by people training and the temporary leader of the camp was running around a table full of papers.
“What is this place, why are all these people here?” she asked still staring at the scene in front of her.
“This is camp; these people are here because they are like you.” I told her. She blinked and looked at me.
“Explain please.” I pulled her to a seat and turned my body to face her.
“This may sound really weird but you have to believe me, me and the old guy over there.” I pointed to the leader still running around in circles. “We made this place for the fight that is coming between the good and bad. The fight is due to princess of the good who made a bad choice and ran away with the prince of the bad. They started wars which led to this one. The good are brought here to train and learn about their gifts. That’s why I have brought you here because your gift will be very important to us.”
“O.K, I believe you but why am I important to this, I have no gift.” She says looking slightly disappointed in herself.
“You have forgotten about it, your mind has blocked the memories of you and you mother.”
“You know nothing about my mother!” she screamed. I tried to put my hand on her shoulder to calm her down but she got up and started running. She ran out the door and I knew not to follow her. She was crying and swearing under her breath. I just sat back and ran my fingers through my hair. This is gonna be harder than I expected.
Paige’s POV
My teary eyes blurring my vision I walked up to my apartment door. I lifted my keys to open the door as it opens by itself. Lucy was waiting for me? She ran up to me and hugged me looking like she had been crying as well. I pushed past her and dropped down on the couch. She shut the door and sat down by me.
“Marcus phoned, he told me what he said and you have to know I miss her too but you can’t be mad every time someone talks about her. It’s been seven years since she disappeared; we both know she’s not coming back.” She whispered.
“I know she’s not but he was talking about her like he knew her, like he knew about everything that happened to us.”
“I know Paige.” She said and looked down at her watch. “I’m gonna have to get going, you know how big nose is if I’m late.” She hugged me and left me sitting alone.
I started thinking about my mum. When I was younger she was just like any other mother but when I was twelve she disappeared, we didn’t have a father so Lucy had taken care of me, she was only a few years older than me but she had acted like my mother.
I was running through the corridors of a place I knew from my childhood. I had a teddy bear in my hand and I wore a pink dress. I was running to find my mum.
“Mummy, mummy, mummy where are you.” I screamed as loud as my four year old voice would let me.
I stopped at a door which led down to the basement. It was dark, there was loud bangs coming from the dark and I was scared. I pulled the bear to my chest and walked down the stairs.
“Mummy, are you here?” I screamed.
I walked to a room that had bright colourful lights coming from it; my mums face was light up by them.
“Hey sweetie, you wanna help me with something?” My mum said softly. She tucked a bit of her curly brown hair behind her ear and smiled at me.
I jumped up and down clapping. I followed my mum into the room and she picked me up and put my on the table. There was a big black bowl in the middle surrounded by pots. I watched as my mum picked up the pots and put things in the bowl. She turned to me and messed up my hair.
“You see that purple pot over there.” She pointed to a bright purple pot on a shelf. “Can you get it?”
I nodded and lifted my hand up to point at it. I moved my finger towards me and the pot moved as well. My mum waited with her hand out as I gave the pot to her.
“You wanna watch this, it’s gonna be pretty.” She said and tipped the contents of the pot in the bowl. There was a loud bang and flowers appeared all around me.
I woke up and sighed. I liked having dreams of my mum; it was nice remembering her for a while. It was late and I knew Lucy wouldn’t be back for a while so I got up and went to bed.
