Chapter 18
Paige’s POV
I looked down at my surroundings. A lot of people were dead but my army had won. We won this. Still looking around I saw Marcus walking towards me.
“You gonna get down from that tree or what?” he asked.
I was currently sat on a branch of a tree hiding myself from the sun. I laughed, pulled my hood up and jumped down from the branch. The sun was just going down but it still hurt.
I walked up to Marcus and hugged him. He hugged me back and then looked at me.
“Did you get hurt?” he asked me.
“I was but I’m o.k. now, I guess fast healing has its advantages.” I said.
He laughed and grabbed my hand. I wanted to go to talk to what was left of our army but he pulled me the other way. I had no idea why but I wasn’t having it. I had just watched some of my closest friends die right in front of me now he want let me talk to those who were left. With my new found vampire speed I pulled my hand away from his and ran over to the group of people bandaging up wounds. I stopped in front of them but got some filthy looks.
“Why aren’t you gone yet freak?” someone said from the crowd.
To say the word ‘freak’ didn’t hurt my feelings would be a lie. What had I done? I just help them defeat the biggest army that I had ever seen and now they want me to leave.
“I just helped you and now you want me to leave.” I said.
“We want you to disappear, you’re no longer one of us.” someone else said.
What? What is going on here? I could hear Marcus walking up behind me. He pulled my hand trying to stop another fight that I knew was about to happen. I wasn’t going to leave without knowing what they had a problem with.
“What have I done that makes me a freak?” I asked.
“You’re a vampire. You’re a freak of nature who kills humans. People like you shouldn’t be allowed to be created.” A man came forward to say.
I wanted to cry. I wanted to kill. I wanted to die. What I didn’t want to do was leave. This is my home and I’m not leaving without a fight. I could feel my fangs break through again and rage went through my body. I walked forward and could see fear in everyone’s eyes. Just as I was about to attack, Melanie stood in front of me. I got pushed back and feel to the floor.
“Stop Paige, You are better than this. Don’t be an outcast like I have become.” She said.
I could feel my teeth return normal. I could feel tears roll down my cheeks and now I wanted nothing more than to leave. I breathed in deep and got to my feet. I hugged Melanie and thanked her for stopping me hurt anyone else. I then faced the group of people. They still looked scared of me.
“I’m going.” I whispered.
I ran. I kept running as fast as I could. The sadness I was feeling was giving me strength to keep running. I had left my so called friends, Marcus and Melanie standing in that field. I’ve killed my sister, I’ve lost my mother and I’ve left the only people who meant anything to me. I guess this is what happens to vampires. Their outcasts.
Marcus’ POV
The minute Paige left me standing there I took off and followed her. I’m not gonna leave her now not after she has lost everything. I kept flying and flying. I couldn’t see her cause she was too fast but I was tracking her. It was hard since she had tried to block anyone following her.
