Chapter 10

Marcus’ POV

My eyes opened to see Paige lying by me. My arm was around her waist and she had her hand in mine. Well it wasn’t a dream then. I lifted my head to see if she was still asleep. She was and I didn’t want to wake her up. I gently moved my arm and sat up. I turned back to Paige, she looked so pretty when she was sleeping, I wonder what she’s dreaming about. I really hope it’s nothing like last night. I was so worried when she just woke up crying. She had told me it was just about her mother but I could tell she was lying about it. It must have been bad for her to be crying over it.

I moved my legs to the corner of the bed and tried to get up but got stopped. Paige put her hand on my elbow pulling me back. She sat up and looked in my eyes, her blue eyes staring into me. I turned back around and sat at the bottom of the bed. She was still lying under the covers and looked very nervous. She bites her lip and I try to stop the smile coming to my face, she looks really pretty when she does that.

“That dream I had last night, I lied about what it was cause I didn’t want you to worry.” She told me. Her head dropped to her hands.

“I know that you didn’t want me to worry but I care about you, I’m meant to worry and try to help you o.k.” She lifted her head up and smiled. She smiled so much that I noticed she had dimples, just another thing to make her look amazing.

Her head dropped again as she started to cry. “Does our gift make us evil?” she asked barely above a whisper.

“Sometimes if we let the power get too much it can make us become evil.”

“How can you stop it?”

“You have someone by your side to remind you of the good person you are; even if you are evil there is still good inside you that will never disappear, if you can reach that the evil power will leave you.” I explained.

“What if I told you I could turn evil?”

“I know you’re not evil, even if you was I wouldn’t let you stay like that.” I told her. She frowned and got up while I was left there, what was that dream?

Paige’s POV

I left Marcus sitting on the bed. I couldn’t tell him the dream I had, he would be way to overprotective and want to keep me safe. If I’m supposed to lead these people to war I can’t have him doing that. The war that could possibly kill every person who is here and we’re heading out tomorrow. I won’t tell anyone but I don’t think I can do it. I’m so scared that I’m gonna let everyone down and get them killed.

I put my hand on the ladder to the roof and saw my hands shaking. Well I guess I wasn’t hiding the nerves that well. I ignored it and pulled my body up the ladder. I really needed to be alone with my thoughts, to just try and let everything sink in to my brain.

I sat on the ledge of the roof with my legs hanging of the side. Yeah I’m stupid but what are you gonna do? I know that I had to do this. Ben had told me that it was meant to happen, that it was in my destiny to win the war. My fingers went over the blue tattoo on my shoulder and I sighed. I wish that Lucy was here. She wouldn’t be able to do anything of course but she would be able to make me smile. She would joke about it like it was no big deal. If only I could tell her.

“What you thinking about?” I jumped where I was sitting; God was he trying to make me fall.

“Marcus, you scared the crap outta me.” I snapped.

He smiled and sat down next to me hugging me to him. He looked like he was about to say something but didn’t. I looked up at his face. His eyes lit up by the sun he stared down at his lap. His usual gorgeous smile being replaced by tears rolling down his face. I could feel my heart breaking as I looked at him crying. Why was he crying, did I miss something?
