Chapter 5
Marcus’ POV
I shoot up out of my bed and put my head in my hands, this keeps happening, I kept having dreams about Paige. I turned my head to the clock on the wall. 5:32 it read. Well there is no point trying to go back to sleep now. I got out of bed and didn’t bother trying not to wake up the others. I climbed up a ladder leading to the roof and sat down. It was still dark outside and I could see the stars.
Two hours later
I was walking towards Paige’s house, my hands in my jacket pocket. I don’t like the cold, I never have. Paige phoned me early this morning and asked me to come over. She sounded a bit frightened so I said I would. I got to her door and knocked. She opened the door and let me in. I sat down on the couch but she kept walking around the kitchen. She didn’t look herself with bags under her eyes and she was still in her pyjamas.
“What’s the matter Paige, you sounded weird on the phone.” I asked. She stopped pacing and put her hands on the counter.
“I remember, I remember everything that happened.” She said fast. She walked over to me and sat on the coffee table. “I knew what I did as a child but how do I do it again.”
I looked at her confused. She was babbling about what she was able to do but it made no sense. I grabbed her arm and shock it.
“Listen, I don’t know about what you did as a child, you have to explain.” I told her. Her eyes met mine and she breathed in. I was still confused about what she was saying but I listened to her anyway.
“I had a dream last night; it was of me and my mother. She was around this black bowl with me sitting on a table. I was moving things with my hand without touching them and my mother was making flowers come out of the bowl. Look I know this sounds weird but I know it happened.” She explained. She was still talking fast but I was able to understand her.
“I believe you, what you do is like the people in camp. I think we should go back there, people can explain your gift and how to use it.” I said. She understood what I meant and went to get dressed.
I stayed on the chair and waited for her to get dressed. I looked around the room and saw pictures hanging. They were of Paige and her sister on what looked like holidays. The one that caught my eye was a picture of Paige. She was sitting in a club but was dressed as a fairy all in glitter and sparkles. I laughed to myself and continued to look around. Paige poked me in the shoulder while standing behind the couch. I turned around looked at her. She was wearing a bright purple vest top and black jeans. Her dark brown hair was in a ponytail with shorter bits hanging down. She coughed and I noticed I was staring at her. She turned a bright red and I quickly looked away slightly embarrassed.
“Uhhh… sorry, shall we go.” I said. She was the one who grabbed my hand this time and my arm tingled. I ignored it and walked out the door. I can’t be feeling anything for Paige. She has to concentrate on the fight.
When we arrived at camp, Paige was very excited to see everything. She was running around like a little child now that she knew about everything. She kept running around asking everyone what there gift was and asking them to show her. While she was talking to them I went to talk to the leader. He was still worrying about everything.
“Ben, Paige is here.” I said. He stopped and looked at me relieved.
He was the leader until Paige was ready to lead us. That is why she was important. She had to lead us in this fight because she is the only person alive who has the gift of telekinesis. She will help us win I know it.
“Marcus, snap out of it.” Ben screamed at me. I had been so caught up in my thoughts that I didn’t realise Ben had been trying to talk to me.
“I know you have feelings for her, Marcus.” He said. I glared at him. He didn’t know, how could he know.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I said. I stared down at my lap and played with my fingers.
“Marcus, I’ve known you for ages. I know when you like someone and you like her.”
“I might O.K. but I can’t do anything about it, we have to make sure she is concentrating on the fight.”
“You worry about things too much, if you told her she might want to help us even more.”
I thought about it. Would that even happen, my feelings for Paige were apparently showing but if I told her she could become distracted and not want to lead us.
Paige’s POV
I stood hidden by a box listening to Marcus and Ben. My heart went into overdrive when he said it. He actually has feelings for me. Inside I as screaming like a little girl with a school crush but I kept silent and listened. They kept talking about the fight and me leading them. How was I supposed to do that? I was only nineteen how was I going to lead them into a massive fight.
I knew I had to get from behind the box because people were starting to notice. I got up and walked to where they were talking. I knocked on a wooden box and they turned around and looked at me.
“Hey guys, Marcus I’ve seen everyone’s gift, do you have one?” I asked smiling. He laughed and got up. I wondered what it was when he walked outside.
I stood at the door as he took off his shirt and threw it too me. I blushed a bit and looked away. He laughed and held my chin.
“Don’t you wanna see this?” he smirked. He looked into my eyes and all I could do is nod my head.
I watched as his skin changed, he become green and scaly and grew a tail. My mouth opened and I gasped. He’s a dragon, how could he not tell me sooner. He changed back but I couldn’t stop staring. He had just transformed into a dragon in front of my eyes.
“Paige, do you wanna give me my shirt or shall I stay like this.” I laughed and threw his shirt at him. He put it on and we went inside. We sat on a table and talked for ages. It was nice getting to know Marcus and what he was like. He made me forget about everything.
