Chapter 17
Paige’s POV
I sat there as Marcus told me about Melanie. She hadn’t feed on a human in seven years. How is that even possible? Well obviously it is otherwise she wouldn’t be alive now. I looked from the dead body to the guard that was watching for enemy movement. I watched him. I could see that he was afraid. I looked at the people in the army. They looked scared too. I put the huge amount of fear I was feeling away. I got up from where I sat and looked at them.
“Let’s do this shall we?” I said.
I let my fangs grow. I could feel the thirst come back and I knew I needed to feed again. I could hear the shock from the group. What? Have they never seen a vampire before? They must have seen Melanie like this.
“Guys, just leave it o.k.” Marcus said standing behind me.
I didn’t know what he was on about but I didn’t have time to ask. Before I knew I was being pulled into the first group to attack. A tall man dragged me by the arm until we were out of the darkness of the trees. I didn’t have my hood up and the sun came burning down on my face. I pulled my arm away from the man and pulled my hood up as fast as I could. Luckily the sun didn’t do that much damage.
I could see the group of people run towards the demons. I run to one of them. I could feel power go through me and I hit one of them in the face. My hands went to their neck and I pinned them to the floor. I bit and could taste the blood.
Marcus’ POV
I watched Paige. She wasn’t like herself. It was weird to know that she might have to kill a person everyday if this animal thing doesn’t work out. I know how much she will hate herself having to kill again after this.
I looked over to the group I was supposed to attack with and then looked back to Paige. She was hunched over a body drinking not far from where I stood. Her head snapped up and I saw her blood red eyes and her fangs and mouth covered in blood. I was actually scared of her like this.
“Marcus Let’s go.” I heard a woman shout.
My group was running out to the demons and I was being left behind. I didn’t attack with them. I had an idea go through my head and looked though the crowd of people for Ben. Pushing past everyone to find him I knocked a guard over.
“Sorry Poppy.” I said without stopping.
I finally found him standing at the back of the crowd. I looked to his hand and he had his ring on his finger. Good. He smiled when I stood in front of him and said hey. He was so happy you wouldn’t off thought he was in the middle of a war.
“I need you to create a distraction, don’t kill just distract and I will kill some of them from the air. When I take most of them then you can start to kill.” I said in a hurry.
He nodded and walked forward to everyone. He pushed his ring on his finger and shadows started to appear around him. Ben was able to manipulate the shadows so that they would kill. I knew there was a reason I kept him around. He walked up to the middle of the field while the rest of the army defended him. Soon enough the whole place was covered in darkness. I changed into my dragon form and took off into the sky. It’s a good thing I can see through this.
I spotted my first target and swept down onto their back. My claws jabbing into their back I used my free hand to break their neck. Once I heard the snap I went on to the next one and the next one. Killing, killing, killing. It was all I had for the past few years of my life. Is this all I’m going to do?
I landed on my last target. This man was really big and looked strong. I won’t be able to just snap his neck I thought. I know. I landed on his back and grabbed hold of his head with my teeth and pulled. His head rolled across the floor and he was lying on the ground in his own blood.
