Chapter 3
Paige’s POV
Next day
“Hey Shannon, anyone there” I said waving my hand in front of her face. She was leaning her elbows on the counter at Starbucks staring at a guy who had just sat down at a table.
“Don’t interrupt me when I’m making my flirting plans.” She warned turning on her heels and staring down at me.
Shannon was sometimes annoying when it came to guys but she made up for it when she helped me with my boy problems. Her green eyes and blond hair shone in the sun and she stood a few inches taller than me. I had been working at Starbucks for a few months and Shannon had always helped me since I started here.
She walked past the counter and started her plan on the poor guy now looking at the door. I laughed silently and served the next few costumers, coffee after coffee after coffee. Don’t these people know we serve more than coffee here?
It had finally calmed down and I had a chance to sit down. Looking around the shop to see that Shannon was still talking to the same guy. Twenty minutes, that’s got to be a record for her. My eyes turned to the window to see Marcus running past. It looked like he was running after someone and there was nothing going on here. I ran to the door and shouted to Shannon I’ll be back in a bit. I started following Marcus to a backstreet where there was a man and a woman fighting. I stood on the turning point with my eyes watching everything that was happening.
Marcus’ POV
I watched as the man and woman continued to argue. They couldn’t see me yet but I had to know when I had to save the woman, she was going to be important in the future. I watched and waited for something which I knew was going to happen. Soon enough he pulled out a gun. I could hear a gasp from behind me and knew someone was watching me. ‘Don’t get distracted Marcus’ I thought.
A gun shot brought me back to the scene. The man had shot near the woman’s arm and my adrenaline kicked in. I ran fast towards the man and tackled him to the floor. I pushed the gun across the floor pinned the man so he wouldn’t be able to fight back.
“Call the police O.K.” I said calmly. The woman was still shaking and crying. She pulled her phone out and called the police.
The police finally arrived after the man tried struggling. I could still feel someone watching us but I couldn’t tell who it was. When the man was in the police car I quickly glanced around to see who it was. Ohh Paige, why do you have to be so curious all the time? Once everything was sorted I turned quickly, Paige started to walk away but I wasn’t having that.
“Paige, come back.” I shouted
She looked hesitant but then walked towards me, she was scared I could tell but she didn’t want to show it.
Paige’s POV
I turned and walked but was stopped in my tracks.
“Paige, come back.” He said.
Why, why did I have to follow him, I knew he would hate me for watching him but I have always been a curious person. I slowly moved my feet to walk towards him. I was shivering and scared. I didn’t want to show it though. My mum always taught me to never show how scared I was. I was now standing a few feet away from him and he didn’t look pleased.
“Why were you following me Paige?” he asked staring down at me, Geez does everyone have to be taller than me.
“I…I don’t know, I’m sorry.” I whispered. I was worried but I didn’t know what of, what I had just seen or if Marcus was disappointed in me.
Marcus put his hands past my head and on the wall behind me and trapped me there. He looked angry but hot as well. What am I thinking, I don’t even know him that well and I’m saying he’s hot.
“You shouldn’t have done that Paige, if I had got distracted by you then who knows what could have happened to the woman I was meant to be protecting.” He snapped. Was it actually his job?
“I am really sorry, I didn’t know that was gonna happen, I hope that woman is O.K.” I whisper while looking at the floor. I could feel I was about to cry. I bite my lip and stopped myself.
“Paige look at me.” He put his fingers on my chin and made me look at him. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you cry, it was just to know I had two people to protect I got worried.” He explained.
He sighed. Why does he have to protect us? I ain’t that important to have someone protect me. I’m just a normal girl with a normal life. If anyone needs protecting it should be someone of importance and what did he mean by I would have distracted him.
“Why would I distract you?” I asked. Really Paige, out of all your questions you ask that?
“It’s hard to explain, there is something that is about to happen which you are important to. That is all I can tell you now but you will find out soon.” He told me still holding my chin. He looked at me one last time and then left. I was left there standing staring at Marcus who had left me there with so many questions in my head. I got myself together and tried to put the questions to the back of my mind. I pull myself back to Starbucks to carry on working.
1 hour later
I was sitting in my pyjamas on the couch while Lucy was in the kitchen getting drinks. We didn’t have to work today so we were having a movie night. We decided to watch a rom com so we put on love actually.
“Hurry up Lucinda, I’ll put the movie on without you otherwise.” I shouted. She was giving me the death glare from the kitchen door. My arms were still in bandages so I wanted to act a bit. “I would have got the drinks but my arms still really hurt, you are a good sister.” I faked crying and holding my arms.
She put the drinks on the coffee table and dropped herself down next to me. I picked up the control to press play but she snatched it off me.
“So what’s this big thing that’s about to happen then?” she asked.
“I don’t know, I told you he only said that something was happening not what it was” I answered. I told her what happened earlier and she hadn’t stopped talking about it since. “Let’s just watch the movie yeah.” I said holding my hand out for the control.
She finally gave it to me and sat back in the seat. We sat there watching the movie in silence. My mind kept going back to earlier. Why was I important, what was about to happen, why was Marcus protecting people and why would he get distracted by me being there?
