#96- Sleepy Baby, Clingy Baby
by hemmingsalmightty on tumblr (All I did was change the name of the baby of Luke's)
Ashton: "You ready to go pick up Daddy, Jake?" you called into the play room, and four year old Jake cheered happily, jumping up.
"Yes!" he grinned. "Let's go!" Jake was happy to put down his action figures in exchange for running down the stairs and getting in the car. You buckled the toddler into his car seat and then headed for the airport, keeping an eye on the clock so that you could get there on time.
Ashton had been gone for nearly a month on some promotion stuff for the newest 5SOS album, and you and Jake had missed him terribly. Nights of FaceTime and phone calls were not enough anymore. Jake needed his dad around and all of you knew it, so you were more than happy that he was coming home. You parked at the airport and pulled Jake from his car seat, letting the boy walk beside you as you entered the arrivals gate. Once there you entertained your son by people watching and making up stories about what they were doing and where they were going, just to pass the time. You were in the middle of making up a story for the family down the way when Jake began to wiggle out of your arms, shouting, "Daddy! Daddy!"
You looked up, and sure enough, there was Ashton sauntering toward the two of you with the biggest grin on his face. You set Jake on the floor and just moments later he was running at his father at full speed, Ashton dropping his duffel bag and crouching down to hug Jake tightly. You followed your son and reached out to hug your husband, kissing him gently. "Welcome home," you murmured.
"I missed you," was what Ashton replied, standing with Jake in his arms. The young boy was clinging to his father, head resting on his shoulder, looking like he was making no attempt to move any time soon. You took Ashton's free hand as you guys waited for his luggage, then you led the way out to the car while Ashton carried his bag in one hand and Jake propped up on his other arm.
When you got to the car, Ashton got Jake buckled into his car seat, and then he moved to sit up front with you. As the three of you headed home, Jake began to enthusiastically fill his dad in on what had happened while he was gone. Ashton spent the whole ride turned in his seat to look at his son, drinking in the sight of the boy gesturing widely from his car seat.
Once home, you unbuckled Jake and attempted to lift the boy from his seat, but to your surprise, Jake refused. "Want Daddy!" he explained, and you chuckled, stepping away and letting Ashton pick him up from the seat.
"Want Daddy, huh?" Ashton smiled, kissing his forehead. "Mommy can't even take you inside?" he asked.
"No!" Jake giggled. "You do it," he insisted. Ashton just shrugged in surrender and headed inside, Jake attached to him.
Jake spent the evening with his father, cuddling close and talking to his father every chance his got. As the evening progressed, Jake got more and more tired, but refused to separate from his dad for even a second. "Alright buddy. I think it's time for someone to get some sleep." Ashton suggested, and Jake just whined in response. "What?" he laughed quietly.
"Wanna stay with you," Jake insisted, nuzzling his face into Ashton's neck.
"But you're so sleepy buddy," Ashton said gently. "Come on, let's get you a bath and in bed." Jake continued whined but didn't protest otherwise, but made his dad do practically all the work to get the boy ready for bed. Once Jake was bathed with his teeth brushed and his pajamas on, Ashton laid him in his bed, kissing his forehead.
"Daddy, read?" Jake asked innocently, and Ashton smiled.
"Okay," Ashton replied gently, unable to resist. "I'll read one story." As promised, Ashton settled on the bed and picked up a book, quietly reading to Jake. By the end of the story, Jake was fast asleep, his little head propped up on Ashton's arm. Ashton carefully removed himself from the bed and studied his sleeping son before covering him with a blanket and quietly leaving the room, feeling much more relaxed now that he was home with the two of you. That made him the happiest person alive, and as he got into bed with you, he decided he never wanted to leave again.
