The dojo was alive with the familiar rhythm of training—fists striking pads, feet sliding across the floor, the occasional bark from Kreese—but Michelle felt like she was drowning in noise. Her chest felt tight, every sound magnified, every movement of her students slicing through her thoughts. She had barely slept after Hawk had snuck into her room last night, the hurt and disbelief in his voice burning into her memory. You stayed... why did you stay? The question had haunted her as she tried to push through her day, trying to lead, trying to act like she belonged. Trying to hide the truth from herself. She had told him nothing, pushed him away, but that didn't make the weight in her chest any lighter.

Robby was in the center of the mat, patiently showing Tory the Miyagi-Do sweep again, their movements synchronized almost perfectly now. Tory stumbled the first time, flailing slightly, but Robby caught her elbow and guided her again, calm and composed. Michelle's jaw tightened as she watched them laugh quietly afterward, that small connection that shouldn't exist in her mind between them making her stomach twist. Since when are you two getting along? Since when is Cobra Kai becoming Miyagi-Do-lite?

She shook her head, trying to focus on the class. She was supposed to lead. She was supposed to lead. But every time she looked at Robby and Tory, every time she thought about Hawk and Miguel, the floor beneath her feet felt like it was tilting. Her chest tightened, her hands clenched into fists. She couldn't afford to falter. Not here. Not now.

"Miss Diaz," Kreese's voice cut through the room like a knife, low and deliberate.

Michelle straightened immediately. "Yes, Sensei?" Her voice was steadier than she felt, though a part of her wanted to scream.

"Step forward."

The room seemed to shrink as she walked toward the center, every student turning to watch, sensing the tension building. She felt eyes on her, her mask of authority pressed tight against the nervous flutter in her stomach.

"You're standing on the sidelines while your students improve," Kreese said, his voice smooth, low, like a predator circling.

"I'm observing," she shot back, keeping her chin high, trying to sound confident. "I'm making sure they're learning the techniques properly. That's leadership."

Kreese tilted his head slowly, eyes narrowing. "Leadership does not observe. Leadership commands. Leadership inspires. You, Miss Diaz, are faltering. And I see it."

Michelle felt a spark of anger flare. "I am not faltering. I'm keeping control. The dojo is running fine."

Kreese's gaze sharpened, boring into her. "Is it? Or are you letting personal distractions—boys, old friends, failed loyalties—cloud your judgment? I see the hesitation in your movements, the doubt in your eyes. And make no mistake, hesitation is lethal. You hesitate, you falter, you fail—do you understand me?"

Michelle's hands shook at her sides, the sting of his words mixing with the lingering ache from last night. She clenched her jaw, trying to hold her composure. "I... I'm not distracted. I know what I'm doing."

"Do you?" Kreese pressed, stepping closer. "Because from where I'm standing, you're letting emotions run your mind. Hawk. Miguel. Tory. All of it. It's clouding your decisions. And if you can't separate yourself from it, if your heart keeps pulling your head in a hundred directions, I will not tolerate it. Cobra Kai does not forgive weakness. Cobra Kai does not forgive hesitation. And I will not waste time on those who let personal feelings destroy their leadership."

Michelle's chest tightened. Her vision blurred slightly with heat. "I—" she started, but her voice faltered under the weight of his stare. She could feel Robby watching, Tory oblivious, the rest of the students sensing the crackling tension.
