She never truly understood the meaning of life and its happenings. From what she used to believe, it's all about timing and that it'll all make sense soon. Our fate is already written, she knew, and she felt it as she lived it.

Life was nothing but a beautiful lie, and death was the ugly truth. But between life and death lay love. If one were to be deprived of it, their life could only be summarized by their birth and death, and nothing more significant.

Loneliness.

She had been warned by her mother to never fall into it, for once the feeling settled in, it clung to you like a parasite, slowly sucking the life out of you.

But how was her mother to know what was really bothering her right now? With her two friends, who she thought were dear to her, turned their backs on her, and her family, living on the other side of the city, remained oblivious to anything.

An unusual feeling about Zayden still ate her up from the inside, but she knew she had tried her luck in confronting him directly.

She sighed heavily, shutting the book close. It seemed as if nothing was easing her apprehensive state.

He was getting into her head.

That woman was getting into her head.

She often thought about calling Papa or Mrs. Walker to ask her details about their son's history, but considering how they've kept it hushed, there must've been a deeper scar left behind.

Plus, she didn't like to go behind Zayden's back to dig into his past.

The irony.

Her phone rang, snapping her out of her thoughts.

"Hello?"

"Melina, you're still at home?"

"Yeah, I am. What's up?"

"Honey, I forgot to take my lunch to work today," Zayden lowered his voice, not wanting anyone else to hear him, "Can you please bring it for me?"

She had never been to his company before and had a feeling that he wouldn't want her to be seen by his employees, let alone know he was married. He could've eaten something else or easily asked his secretary to bring it for him, so what's with this unexpected call?

A thousand questions circled her head, but she replied anyway, "Uhm, sure."

"I'm sorry," He said, sensing her puzzlement, "I don't feel like eating out today."

A small smile graced her lips, "It's okay, Zay. I'll be there soon."

"Thank you, sweetiepie," He said as he hung up.

She took a sharp inhale. Office, it is.

Laying eyes on her surroundings, Melina felt breathless for a split second.

The towering skyscrapers made her feel small-not in size, but in her sense of identity. She always struggled to find a true sense of belonging. The area was quiet, and the winds were stronger today. The lush greenery around her was the only thing charming about the place, easing her nerves, and as if telling her that there's still hope left.

"I've come here to give Mr. Walker his lunch," she said, meeting the observing eyes of the security.

"Oh, it's a delivery girl. Let her in."

"Delivery for Mr. Walker? That's rare."

Her eyebrows arched up in surprise, "O-Oh no, I'm his. . ." But had he told anyone he was married? "Family."

The guards exchanged looks of disbelief, eyeing the younger female head to toe, and everything about it seemed unwelcoming. They weren't convinced in the slightest, and why would they be? It felt unsettling to her.

One of the guards sighed, "Look, lady, we'll need some ID proof, or anything that you have that can show you're related to him."

"Uh, I don't have any," she lied, clutching her wedding ring for dear life, "Sir, I just want to give him his lunch. In fact, you can give this to him without me entering the premises."

"Really?" The guard asked, blinking twice, "Uhm. . are you a fan or something?"

She wished she could roll her eyes at his question.

"Well," he averted his gaze to the transparent glass gates that separated them from the building. She followed his gaze and ended up spotting a familiar figure descending the staircase, "There's the boss. Why don't you give his lunch yourself and prove to us you're his family?"

She scooted to her left, not wanting to be seen by Zayden lest she reveal any of the secrets he's been keeping from his colleagues.

"Oh god," she muttered under her breath, bending down. She never thought she'd chicken out so easily, "Sir, I have somewhere to be right now, I'm getting late. If you could please-

She was cut off when the automatic doors slid, revealing the man in question along with a few other colleagues, one of whom seemed oddly familiar.

Her lips parted, and she straightened her posture unknowingly, a feeling of uneasiness erupting from her gut. Her insides were screaming to leave the place immediately, but her mind was in turmoil- one which she was beginning to fall victim to.

Amelia Brown

A warm smile remained plastered on Zayden's countenance as he stood there chattering with the female and the people surrounding them. His eyes were locked on Amelia, whose only back lay visible to her, but still easily recognizable from the leopard-printed coat- her signature look.

"Surely," She heard him say, and in an instant witnessed the sight of him reaching out to her for a hug.

And that was when his hazel orbs met her shocked ones.
