"But I don't think I've ever loved you quite like I do right now."

"You're going to be a father."

The words settled between them softly.

No louder than the Christmas music still drifting through the apartment. No louder than the crackle of the fireplace or the distant hum of Boston city beyond their floor to ceiling windows.

And yet, Ethan Ramsey thought he had never heard anything louder in his life.

For a moment, he simply stared at her.

Not because he had not heard her.

But because he had.

Completely.

Every syllable.

Every meaning.

Every future hidden inside those five simple words.

His hand remained where she had guided it, resting beneath hers against the soft plane of her stomach. His fingers did not move. Neither did he.

The entire room seemed to fall away.

The Christmas tree remained glowing quietly in the corner, gold lights reflected in the windows behind them. Half-finished glasses still sat abandoned on tables. Wrapping paper from exchanged gifts remained scattered beneath the tree. Somewhere in the kitchen, a forgotten candle continued to burn.

Yet all of it felt impossibly distant.

As though the world had taken one careful step backward to leave them alone with this moment.

Blue watched him quietly, her head turned slightly to look back at him.

She had imagined this reaction more times than she cared to admit over the past three days.

She had imagined laughter.

Shock.

Disbelief.

Questions.

She had imagined him staring.

She had imagined him speechless.

She had imagined him immediately understanding.

She had imagined him needing time.

Somehow, none of those imagined versions compared to the reality standing before her now.

Because Ethan looked almost... overwhelmed.

Not frightened.

Not uncertain.

Simply overwhelmed.

His aquamarines searched her emeralds as though he needed to make sure she was real before he allowed himself to believe any of it.

The sight alone nearly undid her.

"Ethan," she whispered softly.

His throat moved.

Then finally—

finally—

he blinked.

A breath escaped him, uneven and shaky.

And then another.

The hand resting against her stomach tightened ever so slightly beneath hers.

"Blue..." he said quietly.
