"...Now you're glowing."

The Canary sun spilled its honey glow across the resort, painting the sky in a mellow blue that matched the stillness of the water.

Blue stretched out on a pool chair, skin catching the light like it belonged to her, earbuds tucked in, head swaying slightly to a sun-drenched summer tune. A glass of iced tea glistened at her side, beads of condensation slipping down to kiss the table.

Just a few feet away, Ethan cut through the pool in smooth, steady strokes, his body moving with quiet confidence. Water rippled around him, reflecting the golden hour, and every motion seemed effortless. Even here, in the warmth of Tenerife, he carried the kind of gravity that could anchor anyone. Broad shoulders, taut muscles, aquamarine eyes catching the sunlight. Every inch of him was a reminder of the stability he brought into her life — the kind that could ground her on days when the world felt too loud.

It had been a few weeks since the negative test result, the one they had seen together, quietly, without words at first. Blue had said she was fine, but the shadow lingered longer than her smile. Ethan had noticed it immediately, the way her shoulders tensed just a fraction, the faraway look in her emeralds. He remembered the night he had pulled the tickets from his back pocket, heart thudding harder than it should for a folded piece of paper.

They had been curled up on the couch, the silence comfortable but heavy. Ethan had leaned closer, slipping the envelope into her hands.

"Tenerife?" she had breathed, blinking at the bold letters as if they might change if she looked away.

"Sun, sea, and just us," he whispered, brushing a caramel strand behind her ear. "It's our first wedding anniversary in a few days. A little escape might do us good."

Her laugh had been soft at first, almost fragile, then bright, warm, real. That sound, tucked away in Ethan's memory, had become a promise: this trip would be more than an escape. It would be a memory that carried them forward, proof that life together was already full, even while they waited for the little life they longed for.

Now, here they were. The sun bright, the ocean humming in the distance, Blue stretched out like a painting in golden light, Ethan slicing through the pool with the same steadiness he had shown when he anchored her emotions weeks ago. The ache of what they did not yet have lingered in quiet corners of their hearts, but here, love filled the spaces in between — soft, golden, infinite.

Ethan paused his laps to catch his breath, leaning against the pool edge, aquamarines locked on Blue in a way that made her chest tighten. Blue set her book aside, tugged her earbuds from her ears, and swung her legs over the edge, easing onto the shallow ledge, letting the water swirl around her thighs.

"Careful," she said with a smirk. "At this rate, you're going to make me feel bad about sitting here doing... nothing."

Ethan raised an eyebrow, a faint grin tugging at his lips. "Oh really? Thinking of joining the workout?"

Blue laughed, letting her knees brush against his sides as she rested a hand lightly on his arm. "I was thinking I'd admire your dedication... from a safe distance."

"Admiration only counts if it's sincere," he replied, mock stern. "Otherwise, you're just being lazy."

"Maybe I like being lazy... especially when someone else is putting in all the effort," she countered, eyes sparkling.
