"She won't confront him immediately," he continued calmly. "She's too proud for that. First, she'll investigate secretly. She'll question servants quietly, watch his movements, and search for inconsistencies. She'll want proof before exposing herself."

Bai Fengju nodded slowly. That part made sense. But she still did not understand how the plan succeeded if Wang Jin turned out innocent.

Tang Shushui looked up at her slightly. "And once she starts investigating him," he said softly, "I'll simply let Wang Jin find out."

Bai Fengju froze.

For the first time that evening, she truly understood how vicious the plan was, and just how cunning Tang Shushui was.

Tang Shushui gave a faint laugh, though there was no warmth in it. "Think about what kind of man Wang Jin is."

Bai Fengju fell silent.

"After all that dovotion," Tang Shushui said quietly, "his wife still secretly suspects him."

The room became silent again.

Tang Shushui leaned back slightly in his chair. "Do you know what that means to a man like him?"

Bai Fengju slowly realized it.

Wang Jin came from poverty. No matter how successful he became later, there would always be people whispering that he married into wealth and relied on his wife's family to climb upward. A man like him would naturally be more sensitive to dignity and pride than anyone else.

Because which man truly wanted his success attributed to a woman? Especially in a world like this one.

A poor scholar marrying into a wealthy merchant family already carried humiliation with it. Even if people praised Wang Jin openly now, there would always be whispers behind closed doors that without the He family's silver and influence, he would still be another forgotten scholar struggling to survive.

Bai Fengju lowered her gaze slightly.

"He spent years trying to clean his reputation," Tang Shushui continued. "Not because he's necessarily some perfectly loyal man. I don't believe that."

His fingers tapped lightly against the table.

"Look at how his son turned out." Tang Shushui snorted

Tang Shushui never fully believed Wang Jin was some saint untouched by desire. A man surrounded by officials, power, and temptation for years would inevitably learn how that world worked. If Wang Jin truly had someone outside, then he would simply be far more careful about it than other men.

Careful enough that nobody noticed. Careful enough that even Lady He remained blind for ten years. And honestly, that possibility was not small.

But that was exactly why the plan worked no matter which answer turned out true.

"If he's cheating," Tang Shushui said calmly, "Lady He will eventually uncover traces of it herself once she starts digging deeply enough."

And if that happened, the Wang household would explode from the inside.

Lady He's pride would never allow her to stay silent after discovering she had been fooled for years. With her money, her status, and her temper, she would absolutely retaliate. The confrontation alone would shake Wang Jin's reputation badly.
