Part one - New commandment
Once again, today was blistering. Why? Well i do live in the middle of Arabia, for one, and two, these new tights really lived up to their name. I swear they were cutting of my circulation, but i didnt take notice, because today was the inspection day.
It was crowded, which i had known was going to happen, but i had gotten there late like i normally do, and i had to fight my way inside just to get a look at the stage.
Today was an important day for us poor, slum dwellers. For it was the one day in years that we could look for a sponser, or a person that takes pity on us poor people and try to help by giving us a raggy blanket, or a bowl, or dry fruit.
That may not sound so amazing, but to me, it was life saving.
"Um, excuse me, oh, oh gosh, um pardon me-" I whispered as i slithered through the crowd of people who really needed a shower.
Although i knew that was unlikely, and thats why they were here.
"Please, i have two children at home!" One man shouted at a willing sponser.
"I just want some water!" A desperate girl yelled to a lady sitting comfertably on a carpet.
I unwillingly pushed the camel-smelling people away and made my way towards the sponsers. It was a unusualy hot day, and everyone that lived in the slums was here.
Some tried to wear there worst, most torn clothes, to look more needy, but i knew that wasnt the case. The last year i had done the same thing, and i didnt get anything but strange looks.
Well, not counting my red hair, and shortness, i was just like the average 15 year old. Although i had no friends at all. Well one blonde girl that works at the streetside market talks to me, but i can tell its out of pity too.
"Aghhh!" I spat as i fell over something.
I quickly got up and apologized, not wanting to have broken something i couldnt pay for.
"Ow.." A small voice echoed my apology.
To my suprise, a little boy, around the age of 9 stood up and rubbed where he fell, looking at me like i had to pay-up or something.
Not being able to pay, i did the next best thing, plead, i guess.
"OH my god, i am so sorry! I-i didnt see you coming!! Your just so short, that-"
The boy snarled at the comment.
"You should be talking shorty." The boy shot back with a annoyed voice.
I was stamered. Me? Shorter than him?
"Umm..." I whispered not wanting to insult him further.
"Next time watch who you trample." He closed his eyes and walked away.
And that was when i noticed, he wasnt wairing raggs, or hamy-downs at all. On the contrary, he looked like he was royalty, a nobal at no less.
"....." I picked myself up and ran to the exit, hidding my face in disapointment. If he had recognized my face, i could be imprizoned, beheaded, or enslaved for a crime like i commited.
Once i was out of the sponser hut, i walked back down the alley, wanting to avoid anyone seeing my tear-filled eyes. Again, this year, i was coming home to Ala empty handed.
I flipped back the flap that lead to my little hut in the slum. It was an abandoned building, not big at all, but it was big enough for two people.
