IX.
My next few days had been filled with governing lessons by the ministers and, because of the press conference on my birthday, King Henry & Queen Louise had been preparing me for it.
But it had also been filled with wonderful times with Noah, whenever he'd take me out on a new adventure in Stockholm. Margaux, on the other hand, had been a friend who has shared so many interests with. I loved her insight on certain things, and I found that if France ever needed a ruler again, Margaux was going to be perfect for the job.
Today was my birthday, which meant it was also Astrid's, and that also meant it was the press conference.
"Why have you taken up this position?"
I took a deep breath. "I feel that same responsibility my ancestors had when it comes to Denmark. My family has sacrificed a lot for the country, and it's my turn soon. When it's my turn to be Queen, I carry the legacy. I can't leave the nation that my family has been building up ever since the tenth century. Denmark is such a big part of my family because we've cared for Denmark and that's all we know."
"Do you think you will make a good Queen for Denmark after what has happened with the previous royal family?"
"Well, I hope that I will be good enough for Denmark. I'm still learning, so I hope that the country will give me some time while I learn the ropes. King Henry the Second & Queen Louise of Sweden are helping me out, and hopefully, I'll learn how to govern the country without seeking any guidance from other countries unless there is an urgent issue we are faced with, but I hope there will be none in the future while the country is under my reign."
Queen Louise smiled at my answers to her questions. "Maeve, sweetheart, you're doing great. Keep that up for the actual conference later on."
"But wait, aren't you going to tell me what to say regarding my personal life if brought up?" I frowned.
"We don't know much about your personal life other than what's on paper, Maeve, so you're going to have to figure that out on your own." She said. "We only have an hour and a half to the conference and you haven't changed into your clothes yet," she glanced at my bathrobe, "so when you've changed, the makeup and hair crew will come and do you up. It'll be the world's first impression of you, Maeve, so we have to doll you up for this."
"Thank you for preparing me, Your Majesty. Thank you to your husband too for helping." I said before she left.
"It was a pleasure doing so, Maeve." She replied and slipped out of my suite, leaving me to change into my clothes.
I looked into my wardrobe, and there were tons of outfits in a separate corner that weren't mine, but I suspected they were to be used at events. I skimmed through, and found a Jason Wu sleeveless black dress that ended right below the knees, with two mesh see-through lines at the lower part of the skirt. I quickly knew what was to be paired with the dress, and so I'd worn on a black pair of Alexander McQueen gold cap-toe heels.
As soon as I stepped out of my walk-in wardrobe after changing, there were rasps on the door. I frowned, wondering if it was the hair and makeup crew that Queen Louise had told me about.
I opened the door, and there was a group of people waiting outside. They all bowed to me respectfully— something I had to get used to— and I allowed them to enter, since they were obviously the makeup and hair crew that Queen Louise had informed me about.
