THROWN INTO ROYALTY BONUS: LONG MAY SHE REIGN
Elle Magazine interview with Crown Princess Maeve Ella Weisz of Denmark by Ivory King

It's a Thursday afternoon in Stockholm, Sweden, and I had just touched down in the Venice of the North a day ago. I flew all the way from New York just for an interview that had just been assigned to me suddenly between all of the editing and writing of articles a few days ago, finding myself now standing in front of the public entrance of the fortress the most well-known Swedish family lives in. I've been told it's an unusual sight to see the place awfully crowded like what I'm seeing now, and that it has been going on for a week ever since the first press conference my interviewee has appeared at.

I had to pass by tight security as I entered Drottningholm Palace, the official home of the Royal Family of Sweden, and the temporary residence of a certain royal now making headlines all over the world with the government of Denmark announcing the abdication of the former Royal Family of the country who has now been replaced with a very mysterious new Crown Princess.

Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Maeve of Denmark welcomes me with a wide and bright smile and open (toned) arms when I had passed security with an official tag and was led through the countless halls of the palace. "Welcome to Drottningholm Palace! Thank you so much for coming here." She greets me in perfect English with a slight tint of an accent I can't seem to place, standing up from the sofa of her suite the moment I'm ushered in. Her perfect, wavy gold tresses bounce with every move she makes and her rosy cheeks compliment the smile on her face. "I'm so pleased to make your acquaintance."

The Danish Crown Princess oozes elegance, charm and beauty from her YSL crystal-encrusted long-sleeved turtleneck LBD to her Gianvito Rossi heels that makes her three inches taller than her usual 5'9" stature. Her Ippolita onyx and diamond drop earrings compliment her outfit, and so does the gentle smile on her face. At 20 years old, the future Queen of Denmark looks calm and collected as if she hadn't been thrusted into all of this, but more like she had been prepared all her life. "My aunt taught me that I always had to expect the unexpected," she jokes with a twinkle in her baby blue eyes. "She herself had given me many examples."

The world first got a glimpse of Crown Princess Maeve through the news, and I remembered the first time I saw the picture of her in a newspaper— I immediately thought about how young and beautiful the future Danish Queen was with her wide smile, flawless skin, high cheekbones and her unusual yet stunning eye shape resembling a cat's. She looked like a potential supermodel-in-the-making instead of a destined queen in what seemed to be a recent photo for an identification card of some sort. She confirms my musings, telling me that it was taken a year ago for her school ID at the University of Copenhagen when she first admitted into the university. "I've been told by my boyfriend that I look like a supermodel when we were riding on his motor a week ago," she laughs when I say what I first thought about her at first glimpse of her picture. "He's just a flatterer, that's all."

The suite the Princess resides in currently is almost a penthouse, with lush velvet furniture and a wide television set out. I stare in awe of her apartment. "We're in Noah's wing of the palace. His place is next to mine," says Princess Maeve.

The questions I had prepared beforehand seemed expectant of the prospective Queen of Denmark. She got me to take a seat beside her, which I feel privileged to do so, and all she gives me is a smile when she saw the small notepad in my hands. "I didn't get a chance to answer every question all the journalists had during the press conference for my first media appearance. I'll try to answer every single question you ask to make it up to them. Let's start, shall we?"

I then realise that any journalist of any kind would kill to be in my place— they range from entertainment reporters to those of the political kind, since the lady beside me who is going to be named Queen of Denmark in only a matter of time holds so much influence and power the moment she was revealed to the public. I could ask her any question, and she'd answer them. It was difficult to choose which question I'd ask her about first; her romantic relationship with the hidden Prince of Sweden, or her life before any of this came along?
