XXIII.

I was a queen. I was the Queen of Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands. I couldn't wrap the piece of information around my head as everyone chorused together as they looked at me.

"Long Live the Queen," they all repeated Mr. Frisk's last words when he had finished up with the speech, and in an instant, the weight of the world had landed on my shoulders without warning.

"Your Majesty, we'll have to bring you back to Stockholm immediately." Juliette informed me in a professional tone. I almost thought King Henry or Queen Louise were nearby, but forgot that I was now to be referred to as 'Her Majesty'.

I hesitated. "We can't stay here for a little while?" I asked.

"I'm sorry, Your Majesty, but it's basic protocol. We'll have to bring you back to Stockholm so that we can pack up everything before moving to Copenhagen." She shook her head.

"Wait, we're moving to Copenhagen as soon as possible?" My eyes widened.

"Yes, Your Majesty. Now that you're crowned Queen, you're going to be needed around most of the time. It's also your first time, so the nation will need its ruler back. Like I said, it's basic protocol." She explained.

Unwillingly, I stood up. I gave an apologetic smile to my grandparents. "I'm so sorry—"

"Duty calls, my dearest granddaughter." Princess Nancy nodded, understanding. She eased my guilt by flashing a small smile. "We understand."

"Please know that you're always welcomed back to Amalienborg Palace again." I told them. "It was nice finally meeting you both."

"Your Majesty, the helicopter will be taking off in two minutes." Juliette gently reminded.

"Of course," I told her and flashed one last smile at my grandparents before leaving them in the library of their mansion. My gut twisted as I thought about how abruptly I had to leave them because I had new duties to be responsible for. I got on the helicopter anxiously as I balanced in my heels in the aircraft that felt unsteady beneath my feet.

Everything wasn't like how I had thought. This was unexpected. I thought that maybe Mr. Frisk would tell me in a week advance about this so that I could at least prepare for things. This wasn't what I'd call keeping me prepared. This was all of a sudden, and they never even prepped me about the basic protocol or whatever there is for when I'm announced to be Queen. I hadn't even said my farewells to everyone. Oh no. Everyone.

I couldn't bear to think how far apart I would be from Noah. Hours away, in different countries. I'll be apart from Caterina and Margaux as well, and my only form of mentors, King Henry, Queen Louise and Christoffer, won't be within reach. Yeah, maybe they should have prepared me earlier about this. It won't ever be the same again like the past month— full of lessons, getaways and additionally some parties. Now was the actual thing. No matter how much they had prepared me to be Queen, I still felt underprepared compared to all the crown princes and princesses in this entire world even though Christoffer had told my grandparents that I was up to par with him. I didn't feel like it all of a sudden.

Oh god.

"Your Majesty," Juliette pulled me out of my reverie, "now that you're Queen, security has tightened and for the next few weeks, your schedule will be more packed unlike when you were Crown Princess. You'll officially start your duties tomorrow. Your coronation is the day after tomorrow and decorations around the country are currently being put up as we speak."
