XXIV.

"Well that was quite a show for the media," Alexandria remarked, her arms crossed as she leaned back into her seat. Her bubblegum snapped back into her mouth as she stared out of the jet window. I tried not to keep my eyes on her since I knew she'd do something to trigger me.

"I don't like you." I blurted.

She scoffed. "Well, newsflash: you're not the first one."

There was simply silence between us for the next few minutes, except for her constant chewing. There wasn't any tension, even though we disliked each other. It felt more like we couldn't really bother that much about the other person when we weren't forcing ourselves to talk about monarchy-related issues.

I caught Alexandria looking at me twice, then she took out her Gucci sunglasses to hide her grey eyes as she chewed on her gum. There was a look of hesitance on her face. "I apologise for what had happened back in Drottningholm. I only wanted to talk to you and you both were taking too long... ugh." She grimaced, shaking her head.

I pursed my lips, frowning. This was the first time I had ever heard an apology muttered by her. I guess this was a start. "I'm sorry too."

"Now, about what I wanted to talk to you about, it's more of a precaution, really." She started. "It's about Anton."

Suddenly, I realised that I hadn't thought about him for a while since I've been keeping up with my royal duties, friends and Noah. Anton, the common threat that Alexandria and I faced. I wondered what she wanted to say.

"Since we're going back to Denmark, I'd just like to caution you that Anton will inevitably try to make a move against you but he won't go to anti-monarchists because he wants to make the government side with him and not you. He might bribe certain ministers to side with him by telling them that they'll be holding important seats in parliament when he becomes king but it'll take time for them to be swayed. These are all men and women who are strong-headed which brings me to my next point— he may hold something against certain ministers so he'll have the upper hand when getting them to do something. He's quick-witted and fast, but you'll just have to be better."

I opened my mouth, unable to say anything. "Uhm, just how—"

"—do I know all about this? I used to be with Anton, remember?" She smirked. "And trust me, I didn't just party when I was a royal. I observed the government system when I, well, didn't have anything to do. I know what makes some ministers tick and how it goes. I doubt there has been any significant change ever since my father was abdicated, so I think that with me by your side, you just might do fine."

"Did I just hear that you're by my side?" I feigned shock as I kept the light tone in my voice.

Her cheeks grew as scarlet as her hair. "You're not making me repeat what I said." She warned.

I couldn't wipe off that slight grin on my face. "I won't," I assured her. "Quick question, though— when was the last time you've been to Amalienborg?"

She paused. "Well, it was the day after the abdication. Our things were shoved into boxes and sent to Gråsten Palace. It was all very cold and distant, how the government officials handled us."

I felt apologetic. She may have been a serial party-goer, but how her family was treated after abdication was unacceptable even though they had wronged the country. Everyone deserved respect.
