18 Weeks — Ash Arrives

It started, like most things with Lilly, completely out of nowhere.

08:20 AM — Suspicious Behaviour

Leah woke up alone.

Which was unusual now.

Because lately Lilly refused to leave the bed before checking:

1. Leah was breathing
2. Leah hadn't thrown up
3. Leah ate at least one cracker

So immediately—

"Lilly?" Leah called sleepily.

No answer.

She frowned slightly, dragging herself out of bed, oversized hoodie hanging off one shoulder as she wandered downstairs.

Still half asleep.

Still exhausted.

Then—

Voices.

Outside.

A man laughing.

Lilly saying something low.

Leah blinked slowly.

"...what the fuck?"

She opened the back door.

And froze.

Because standing in the garden—

Was Lilly.

Holding a tiny German Shepherd puppy.

Leah stared.

The puppy stared back.

Lilly looked mildly guilty.

"...surprise?"

Leah blinked again.

"You bought a dog?"

"He needed a home."

"That's not what I asked."

The puppy barked loudly.

Leah's face instantly softened.

"Oh no."

Lilly noticed immediately.

"You like him."

"I do not."

The puppy stumbled over its own paws trying to walk toward her.

Leah put a hand over her heart dramatically.

"Oh my god."

Lilly smirked slightly.

"Thought so."

08:45 AM — Immediate Attachment

Five minutes later—

Leah sat on the outdoor step holding the puppy like a baby.

"You traitor," Lilly muttered.

Leah ignored her completely.

"He's so tiny."

"He won't be tiny for long."

The puppy licked Leah's chin.

Leah gasped softly. "Stop it..."

Lilly leaned against the doorway watching them.

And softened immediately.

Because Leah looked happier than she had in weeks.

Actually smiling.
