A/N: Well, why not another depressing chapter? And it's LONG, I think my biggest chapter so far (at least from Annabeth, even more than xmas/new year). And it was over 13k words, there is NO WAY I would review and edit it, you get what it is.

Annabeth's Flashback

SATURDAY, 25th February

Helga sighed deeply, closing another cabinet.

"Annie, any idea where your brothers hid the sugar?"

Annabeth opened her mouth to say she had no idea, but stopped when a half-second memory came to her mind.

"Try the fridge."

She could see Helga's disbelief transform into a weary sigh when she indeed found the sugar container inside the fridge.

"Honestly, those two..."

Annabeth accepted the container and moved it close to the bowl, waiting for her stepmother to relay how much of it the recipe required.

Not that I'm complaining, but why your boyfriend didn't invite you to go with them?

You mean horse-riding? Because that's not my thing?

I thought you liked the pegasi.

I do, I grew up around them. I help care for them and all.

Then why?

Because in my core, I'm not a horse girl like Hazel. I didn't create a deep bond with one like Reyna. It's never my first choice like it's for Percy or Jason. I prefer participating in a chariot race than going for a leisure ride. Besides, pegasi have an almost human intelligence and mostly volunteer to help us, so you don't need to know how to control them. That's not the case for normal horses. I likely can ride one if I need to, doesn't mean I'd want to.

Still, I would expect you to choose horse riding instead of spending the day with my family.

Well... they're not that bad. Besides, I never learned how to bake, so it's nice that Helga invited me to help.

Didn't you spend time with Percy and his mother? And you never learned how to bake?

That's more of their bonding time, I never felt comfortable intruding. They move so in synch that I always prefer to just watch them interacting and joking between them.

"By the way, did you father tell you about Max?"

"Max? You mean, my cousin, Max? No, what about it?"

"He woke up from his coma yesterday afternoon, but apparently there's no lasting damage."

HE WHAT!?

Annabeth's shock and words mirrored Annie.

"HE WHAT!? What do you mean, a coma!? Since WHEN!?"

It was Helga's turn to look at her in shock.

"You didn't know!? Your aunt called on Tuesday to tell us he was in the hospital; your father was supposed to tell you."

AGAIN!?

"He obviously DIDN'T? My cousin almost died AGAIN!? How could you not tell me?"

"Because it was your father's side of the family."

What kind of excuse is that!?

"Still, you didn't notice I was a little too carefree to be someone who KNEW her cousin was in a COMA?"
