Case File Five: Challenge Letter

Kenneth had just gotten out of bed, and was preparing to sit down to breakfast before finishing getting ready for work as his cell phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Good Morning Kenneth, it's Inspector Salvo, I need you to get down to the station right away."

"Inspector you sound troubled, is everything ok?"

"Kenneth just do as I say and get down here now, I'll see you soon."

Kenneth was concerned by the sound of the inspector's voice; he got in his car and rushed for the police station, while on the way he called his job over at the college to tell them he had an important errand to run and that he will be there later. When he got to the station, he was greeted by Officer Johnson, who was waiting outside the door for him.

"Good Morning Officer Johnson"

"We'll see if it is a good morning or not once you come in and see what we have for you, please follow me."

Kenneth followed the officer into the station and towards the back of the building where Inspector Salvo was seated.

"Kenneth we have called you here on a very important matter."

"Well yea I guessed that much, what happened?"

"We received a letter this morning."

"What does that have to do with me?"

"Apparently it has everything to do with you, because your name is on this letter."

With those words Inspector Salvo handed the envelope over to a shocked Kenneth, and sure enough right on the front was his name and on the back was a message saying, "boom!"

"It seems that your recent deductions have caught someone's attention." The inspector said.

"I guess so." He replied staring at the letter.

Kenneth asked for Officer Johnson to get him a pair of gloves and a letter opener. Once prepared he slowly opened the envelope and removed the letter that was inside of it. He first read it silently to himself then; a look of fear grew on his face as he looked over at the inspector and began reading the letter out loud.

"Dear Kenneth Cohl;

I have explosive devices located in certain areas at your main location; unless you want people to die, you need to follow the breadcrumbs from 1-8 below to diffuse the devices. You have until two thirty.
