On a cold night in November of 1990, a mother named Rosalina was in the hospital giving birth to what would be her and her husband's first child, it was to be a little girl, the doctor came in and soon after two twin baby girls were born, as happy as both parents were, they were a poor family and knew they could not afford to take care of two children. Once they were able to leave the hospital, they dropped the younger of the two children off at an orphan house. They placed her in a basket at the door with a note saying, "please care for Alice".

With tears in their eyes, they left the baby and went back home. Their home wasn't much; they didn't have very much money. They were only living check to check. It didn't stop them though; they had food, water, and power. They had everything they needed to be able to live. Any extra money they might have went towards buying new things for the baby, and they were happy. Although not a night went by where they didn't look up at the sky and wonder if their other daughter was ok.

Seven years later, the father whose name was Nikko, had just gotten a promotion at work, he was now going to be a supervisor. He rushed home to tell his wife and daughter Allison the good news. After dinner, Allison went to her room and Rosalina had a talk with Nikko.

"Honey with this new promotion, don't you think it's time. It's been seven years; let's go get our daughter from the orphanage."

"Your right, let's go get her, first thing tomorrow, we can finally make our family whole again."

Sure enough, first thing in the morning, they got in their car and headed for the orphanage. They met with the woman that worked there who was in charge of adoptions. She was an old woman with a nice voice and a pleasant smile.

"So you are the birth parents of little Alice, I remember her, she was such a sweet girl."

"She was such a sweet girl?" Rosalina asked with fear in her voice.

"Why yes, she got adopted two years ago by a nice young couple. They were here visiting family and adopted her and took her back home to the states."

"They live in the states?" Nikko questioned.

"Yes, that's what I just said."

"Could you tell us what state, or give us a telephone number so we can call them?" the parents pleaded.

"I'm sorry but for confidentiality reasons, we cannot disclose the information you're asking for."

"But that's my daughter." Rosalina said breaking into tears.

"Yes and you gave her up, she is now the daughter of a lovely young couple by the last name of Miller, who I'm sure will raise her to be a fine young lady."

With their heads down, they got back in the car and went home. Allison could tell that something was wrong with her parents when they were leaving, but she couldn't tell what. Over in the states, Alice was growing up to be a fine young girl; she was going to school and getting an education. Her mother was Russian and her father was an American, so she was raised to be fluent in both languages. Throughout the next seven years, both Allison and Alice's life became very different.

Alice's parents were both working, but had it scheduled so someone would be home with her. She was growing up to be very intelligent; she was always number one in each of her classes. On the same note she was also tough, she took many different forms of martial arts training. People knew not to mess with her; or any of her friends if they didn't want to get hurt. Her parents were very proud of who she was becoming.

Allison wasn't quite as lucky. Her father ended up losing his job in 2000; his superiors told him he didn't quite have the same spirit as he once did. He tried finding work, but he wasn't able to get hired anywhere, he eventually committed suicide by hanging himself in his room in 2002. Allison stopped going to school and started hanging out with gangs on the street, this was her life for close to two years, when in early 2004, she was arrested. She was sent home to her mother and was told to do community service.
