Chapter 2
6 years later
I woke to people singing in my room. I grabbed my pillow and covered my face with it.
"Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Sydney, Happy Birthday to you" Everyone sang. I removed the pillow from my head to see Luke, Sean, Emily, Dylan and Nathan all standing round my bed smiling. I groaned. I really hated birthday's, being the centre of attention was something that made me very uncomfortable. They all laughed at me.
"Happy Birthday Syd." Emily cried jumping on me in the bed.
"Thanks guys. But seriously you didn't have to all come in here and sing to me, I'm only turning 16. It's no big deal."I said to them as I sat up.
"Of course it is. What happened to the girl who wanted a massive sweet sixteenth party when they were 6?" Dylan asked.
"She died." I replied before I could stop myself, I hated that saying, it reminded me of my mum and what my dad always used to say to me when I started to talk about mum. They all went silent as my eyes filled with tears.
"Don't worry, I don't want it anymore. What's the time? I need to get ready for school!" I asked trying to stop the tears from spilling over on my cheeks.
"It's 6 o'clock, you have time don't worry." Nate answered still looking a bit upset.
"OK, I'm going to shower, would you guys mind waiting in the kitchen?" I asked quietly.
"Sure, Star. See you in a bit!" Luke replied. I hated that stupid nickname. They all walked out leaving me to wake up and have a shower. I showered quickly, dried my hair, straightened it and put on my bare minimum of make-up; I only wear mascara and eyeliner and sometimes lip gloss. Then I picked out denim jeans and a tight red v-neck top.
As I walked into the kitchen I froze, they had blown up balloons and put up banners and were all working on what looked like a fried breakfast. I smiled because I hadn't had a fried breakfast in six years. Life hadn't changed that much though, my brothers' were still very protective of me and Em and so were Luke and Sean, that never really faded after we kicked my dad out. Me and Em told the boys about dad harassing us when they were at football practice and they all snapped, Dylan and Nate had their far share of abuse to, mostly punch's and kick's.
Luke and Sean only knew because Sean saw Em crying through his bedroom window one night and called to make sure everything was alright. He really was sweet. Suddenly, I realised I was staring at Luke and he was smirking at me. I blushed and looked away; he was such an ass at times.
"What you making?" I asked making everyone but Luke jump. I laughed at their expressions; they looked shocked and scared that I was done so quickly.
"God, Syd. Don't do that you scared me!" Dylan scolded making me laugh harder. They all smiled at me because I was laughing so hard I was crying.
"Crap, my mascara!" I whined, making them all laugh.
"You look fine, Star. Looking pretty hot today actually. What underwear you wearing?" He asked laughing at my shocked face. Dylan and Nate punched him in each arm.
"Little sister!" They both growled.
"Yeah Luke, god, how dare you hit on their little sister?" Sean teased making me and Emily laugh. Luke glared at him, while Sean smiled at him knowingly. What was I missing?
I ate my breakfast quickly and we all jumped in Dylan's awesome six seater car, heading to school. I sat in the back with Emily and Sean while Luke, Nate and Dylan sat up front.
