Michael's pov
"Dude what's gotten into you today?" Ashton directed his question towards Luke. We had just driven home from rehearsals and the four of us were crowded around the fire outside my house.
Blake had to run home momentarily to grab a sweatshirt since the weather was constantly changing. While she was gone, Luke unexpectedly showed up. He seemed beyond distracted and out of it.
"I- I don't know" he mumbled, shaking his head and turning his attention to the fire. Calum and I exchanged looks and both turned towards him.
"Luke just tell us" I demanded, propping my elbows against my knees. We watched as he shifted his weight in the chair uncomfortably, and averted out gaze.
"I just had a rough day, okay?" He sounded agitated. "The paps followed me everywhere" he groaned. Ashton shrugged, and I nodded, understanding how overwhelming it can be when every step you take is captured in some way. This however seemed to be more than paparazzi problems.
"That's it?" Cal asked, cocking an eyebrow in Luke's direction. He nodded and chewed on his lip ring, something he did when he was nervous. He rolled a rock under his foot and pulled the sleeves up on his sweatshirt before filling the silence.
"Well there was a girl this morning..." He confessed, rubbing his nose, another nervous habit he had.
"Ahh there it is" I laughed and nudged his side. By the glare he flashed me, I could tell this action irritated him more than I intended it to.
"How did you meet her?" Ashton asked, relaxing into his chair and pulling the blanket up to his chin. The blonde boy opened his mouth to speak, but closed it soon after.
"Well we didn't actually meet..." He trailed off, recalling the events of this morning. I gave Calum a confused look, which he returned.
"Dude you're speechless" I stated the obvious, calling him out on it. "Was she hot?" I asked, smirking at the other two, enjoying getting a rise out of Luke.
"Very," he breathed and I saw a hint of a smile tug at his lips, but he quickly wiped it away and blinked a few times.
"Ayy" we cheered. "So tell us how you met this girl" Ashton said using air quotes around the word met, since Luke implied that they didn't actually meet.
"Well this morning at-"
"I don't know how you keep up with this weather over here" Luke was cut off by a familiar American accent that groaned from behind me. I turned and saw Blake tugging her zip up sweatshirt tighter around her body. "It's freezing out here" she complained and the three of us laughed at her.
"Well it is winter" Ashton teased her as she walked closer.
"Yeah but it was hot before and now it's like the arctic" she remarked and pulled the sleeves over to cover her hands.
"Not used to this changing Australian weather yet?" I asked as she approached out small circle. She shook her head and opened her mouth to reply, but stopped and stared in front of her. Her eyebrows furrowed together and I followed her gaze towards Luke who was staring at her with great intensity.
"Oh yeah," I said. "Blake this is Luke, our fourth and final member" I introduced the two of them as they looked at each other. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Ashton and Calum whispering to each other. I cocked my eyebrow as if to ask what they were talking about and Ashton nodded towards Luke who looked awestruck.
"I feel like I've seen you around" Blake said, drawing Luke from his daze.
"Um yeah I-I think I uh" he was stumble in his words a lot worse than normal. He was usually pretty smooth when talking to girls... quiet, but smooth.
