The fire licked and crackled at the entrance of the cave, sending shadows bouncing of the walls. Its heat was a comforting even though the cold didn't really bother either of us.
"So how did Thor figure out you were on earth?" I asked as I stared out onto Asgard. The sun had receded over the horizon and now the stars where out to play. It was like nothing I had ever seen.
"I use this sort of trick, and Hiemdall, the gate keeper, can't see me. But when I passed out I must have stopped using it and Hiemdall could see me." He replied, also staring out at the view.
"Could I learn how to do that?" I asked. He nodded. And I smiled to myself, that would be cool.
"So why exactly is Thor so angry, aren't you his brother?"
He huffed and put on a sour kind of smile. "I'm supposed to be dead."
"Well, you're not doing a very good job at it." I joked, but he didn't seem amused. I rolled my eyes. "So now he knows that you're alive, how much does that change your plan?"
"Not much, it just means we are going to need to be extremely careful." He put emphasis on the last words. But I already knew that we had to be careful. After having Thor's hammer thrown at my head once, I wasn't keen for it to happen again.
"Hey," I smiled. "You said we this time."
He rolled his eyes this time. "Don't get used to it. Once this is over, I'll be on the throne and you can bow to me from the crowd."
I glared at him. "You wish." I muttered, and thankfully he didn't hear me. We sat in silence for a few moments, but I don't think either of us felt awkward. It was peaceful.
"So how did you end up on earth?" Loki asked. I must have looked slightly surprised because he added, "Not that I really care."
I scoffed but answered him anyway. "I don't really know why I ended up on earth but I know it's not my home. All I remember is my parents landed there with me and they stayed a few years before they took off again." I took a deep breath. " I don't know where they went but yeah. I was just left to fend for myself, so sorry if I've been a little over the top. You're the first person who I've actually spoken to in a while." I replied, sincerely. My mind flashed back to my parents. I could hardly remember anything about them anymore. Only their faces.
"I'm sorry." Loki apologized.
"Why? It's not your fault, and I'm okay now. Well as okay as I can be." I said quietly. It was silent again for a few moments.
"My parents are dead too." He added quietly. I looked at him; he looked genuinely sad but only for a second before his face hardened again. I couldn't help but wonder what had turned him this way, the man who didn't dare let anyone in. But I was too scared to ask. It seemed like we were in the same boat, except I didn't have any intentions to take over the world, or the universe.
"Okay. What exactly is the plan for tomorrow?" I asked changing the subject and lightening the mood.
"Its quite simple. We get into the weapons vault in Asgard and we take the Casket of Ancient Winters and then we get out." He explained as if it was child's play.
"Oh yeah, that will be so easy. Hey, why don't we stop for ice-cream afterwards?" I remarked with sarcasm. He chuckled at my answer and rolled his eyes.
"Fine okay, here's the plan." He started and I scooted closer so I could listen.
