The grand auditorium of the university hummed with a vibrant, electric energy, filled to the brim with thousands of excited families, faculty members, and graduating students. Golden light streamed through the towering stained-glass windows, illuminating the vast sea of black gowns and caps.
At the front of the hall sat the graduating class. Roseanne Park sat near the center of the first row, wearing her pristine academic gown with her gold honor cords draped neatly across her shoulders. Her long fingers were folded tightly in her lap, her dark eyes staring down at the handwritten pages resting on her knees. Standing just a few seats away, looking radiant and sharp in her custom-tailored stole, was Jennie Kim. Jennie kept her eyes fixed affectionately on Roseanne, her warm gaze anchored to her girlfriend like an invisible lifeline.
When the university president stepped up to the podium, the loud chatter inside the auditorium gradually softened into an expectant silence.
"It is my distinct privilege to introduce this year's valedictorian," the president announced, his voice echoing clearly through the massive hall. "Achieving the highest cumulative grade point average in the university's history, representing the Department of Physics and Astronomy, please welcome Roseanne Park."
A thunderous wave of applause erupted instantly. Lisa jumped out of her seat three rows back, letting out a piercing whistle that made Jisoo cover her ears while laughing hysterically. Jackson and Jinyoung began chanting her name loudly, joined by the enthusiastic cheers of Momo, Irene, Wendy, Joy, Seulgi, Jihyo, Nayeon, and Sana.
Roseanne stood up steadily, adjusting her thick glasses before walking up the wooden steps to the main stage. As she reached the podium, the deafening applause slowly settled into a reverent hush. She arranged her notes, took a quiet breath, and looked out at the sea of faces before her.
"When I first entered this institution four years ago," Roseanne began, her deep, velvety voice carrying with a captivating, crystal-clear resonance, "I viewed the world entirely through the lens of strict, unyielding physical laws. I believed that every meaningful phenomenon could be quantified, calculated, and neatly organized into predictable equations. I sought absolute control over my environment to protect myself from the terrifying unpredictability of existence."
She paused, offering a faint, gentle smile that softened the sharp lines of her face.
"However, scientific knowledge alone is incomplete without the courage to step beyond existing parameters. My time at this university taught me that the most profound discoveries do not occur within the sterile vacuum of isolation. They occur when we allow our carefully constructed theories to collide with the wild, beautiful chaos of human connection."
Roseanne paused, her eyes misting over slightly as she looked down at the front row, taking a soft, shuddering breath.
"Before I step toward the future, I must acknowledge the foundational figure who made this journey possible," Roseanne said, her voice thickening with profound emotion. "My late grandmother. When I was younger, I wanted to hide entirely behind textbooks, formulas, and sterile laboratories, completely detached from the world. But my grandmother softly, persistently refused to let me isolate myself. She urged me to choose a normal life, to step outside my rigid boundaries, to explore, to make mistakes, and to truly live among people. She taught me that the universe was meant to be experienced, not just solved. Everything good in my life today exists because she gently pushed me toward the light of the unknown."
A quiet, deeply touched hush fell over the entire auditorium. In the front row, Jennie felt her eyes fill with warm tears, her heart swelling with reverence for the woman who had guided Roseanne into her life.
Roseanne adjusted her glasses, her gaze turning toward the section where her closest friends sat.
"I also owe an eternal debt of gratitude to the extraordinary individuals who forced me out of my isolated orbit," Roseanne continued, her voice trembling slightly with genuine emotion. "To Lisa, whose boundless energy proved that enthusiasm can defy the laws of thermodynamics. To Jisoo, whose wisdom taught me that joy is often found in the simplest, most uncalculated moments. To Jackson, Jinyoung, Momo, Irene, Yeri, Wendy, Joy, Seulgi, Jihyo, Nayeon, and Sana, thank you for accepting my rigid protocols, my social awkwardness, and my endless analytical rambling. You built a home for me when I only knew how to build walls."
