Chapter 13. Distance

Maya's POV-

Yesterday was the da- disaster night.

But it wasn't all an disaster, Some of it I had enjoyed, But other bits I hadn't enjoyed at all.

I did enjoy me and Lucas bonding together,We had a special tight bond I didn't want to lose.

Friendships get ruined by relationships sometimes,So what Lucas did truly meant a lot to me.

Lucas didn't usually do a lot for me,But because he had done this,I had finally known,He was always there when I needed him,And would do things for me if it was necessary.

Today was Monday, Me & Lucas had school,He usually picked me up in the morning's ,But this morning he was running late.
It was slightly unusual, He never ran late,He was always on time so I couldn't help but worry about what was keeping him so late.

We lived near each other,So he should be here...No,Let me correct that.
He SHOULD have been here.

I was going to be late for school at this rate,But instead of waiting continually ,I decided I was going to be the one picking him up for once.

I grabbed my bag which was on the floor,I then headed to the front door,Getting the keys out of my pocket, My mother couldn't lock me out of the house,She had work ,She always had work.

But she did it to keep a roof over are heads,Feed me,Clothe me, So I was grateful for that.

I smiled as I headed out of the front door,I then locked the front door as I left to head to Lucas's.

This was strange.

Well..for me anyway,I had gotten so used to Lucas being with me,It had felt strange when he wasn't with me.

I gave a quick glance at Lucas's house,His front garden before I finally walked towards it.

Without caution I knocked on it loudly, I didn't want him ignoring me..

A few moments later a tear stained Lucas opened the door,His eyes were brimming with tears.

He never cried,So I couldn't help but worry about him,Something was definitely wrong.

"Lucas?" I frowned slightly. "What's wrong?"

"M-maya..." He spoke,his voice croaking slightly. "I-i don't want to say..."

"C'mon,You can tell me..." I whispered."We're best friends...Best friends tell each other everything...,Right Lucas?"

Lucas shook his head at me."Best friends do tell everyone everything, But I don't want to tell you yet."

"Please tell me!" I pestered him,I was dying for him to tell me ,It broke my heart seeing him upset.

"Fine." He sighed. "I'll tell you ,Later on."

"Finally!" I said. "But are you coming to school with me?You uh forgot to pick me up..."

"I'm sorry for that." Lucas frowned. "I would have texted you, But there was too many things going on..."

"Ah." I nodded. "I understand, Lucas."

"Thank you,Maya." He smiled gently at me. "But I won't be attending school today..,So I'm afraid you'll have to go by yourself.."

"Oh..okay." I sighed to myself."I'll come over to your house after school then?"

"You can come then ,Maya." He smiled weakly. "But for now,Go to school."

"Fine.." I mumbled,I quickly gave him a hug before going,He hugged me tightly as if he didn't want to let go.This definitely meant something was up.But I wish I knew what.

Later did seem an awful long time away.

After the hug ended I began walking away from him,And to the bus stop.

That was the quickest way I could get to school,Considering I was already late.

But with the way everything was going today,I assumed the bus would probably be running late.

As per always,My life was going Soooooooo great.Note the sarcasm.

Riley and her father,Mr Matthews,Usually went past the bus stop around about now.

I wasn't even going to hope they would give me a lift,Riley was way toooooooooo fake with me.
I felt as if she didn't like me.
[Note that I'm not making Riley a bully,I personally think Riley is a great character, And the two will become friends eventually,Especially since I extremely dislike fanfics where they make Riley or Maya the bully soooooo.]

I was correct.

Riley and her father were driving, I turned behind so I could see them.

In literally ten seconds they would drive past me,Barely giving me a single glance I'll bet.

"Riley,Honey." I heard Mr Matthews say. "Look,there's Maya.Aren't you two best friends?"

"Uh..dad..,We're just friends." Said Riley,Her tone sounding slightly awkward.

"I'm sure your best friends!" He grinned,Ignoring what Riley has to say for herself."Maya!". He yelled loudly.

I gave a quick glance at them both before saying anything."Uh... Sup?"

"Would you want a lift?" He smiled gently."You and Riley are the best of friends and i-"

No.

We were not the best of friends.

I'm pretty sure Riley Doesn't even like me.

Besides,Lucas Friar,A.K.A Ranger Rick is my best friend,No one else.

"Um sure?" I replied back to him.

He opened a car door open for me,I has to slide in and sit down next to Riley.

I knew one thing.Riley definitely wouldn't have wanted to sit next to me,Even if I was the last person on the entire earth,I'm pretty sure she despises me.

And if she doesn't,Then I don't know...

"How long have you and my Riley been best friends?" He grinned triumphantly to himself.

"Dad!" Complained Riley. "How many times do I have to tell you?She's NOT my best friend,She's just some girl who's best friend I had happened to date."

"Oh,okay." Mr Matthews smiled. "But I forgot to ask..,How did the date night go?"

Me and Riley frowned at each other before Riley said anything. "I'll tell you when we get home..,Daddy."

I also found out I'm starting school on Monday,So that means slow updates ;-;,And less speaking to my friends on here,Ect. ;_;
